Hi Cornishmaid, welcome to J2ski.
The arae lift pass costs 150 Euros for 6 days.
Children are:
120 Euros born 1990~92
90 Euros born 1993~2002
If you need to book ski hire, this could be done on Skisei, on this site.
If you need ski school, I suggest you book beforehand, with the Red Ski School.
Even if your booking is through the internet, you might be able to go through the the TO website, and put your registration no in.
Which hotel are you staying in?

Hi Karen72
It is definately a 'mum' thing - I feel the same. This will be our third year skiing with the kids (my youngest is 6 and oldest is 11) and we still find out where they are at lunchtime from the ski school instructors and meet up with them a few times during the week. On the other hand, now that we are a bit more relaxed about leaving them, hubby and I really enjoy this time out and partake of some very nice lunches with a few wines and beers on the mountain (we go to Kitzbuhel) I am sure I ski much better in the afternoons
We slways make sure we are back to collect them at 4.00. Last year my eldest two ended up going on a ski safari to the Salzburg border with their instructor and did not get back until 6.00 in the evening. They had to catch the bus back but it was all they talked about for ages. The instructor had rung us to ask if it was okay to take them that far across the mountains and delivered them safely to our hotel where all four of the kids were staying.
Us mums will never get over our fear factor no matter how old our kids are (so my mum in law tells me) so just get out there and enjoy it. I am going to this year!!!
Roll on February
Always been the case, mate.

karen72 wrote:thanks Dave. I wasnt thinking of buying lunch at the Alpenhof as we are self catering I was thinking more along the lines of making them a sandwich (with the credit crunch and all! lol) I might splash out and take them to lunch one day.
I suppose I am a bit of a control freak. I am nervous about just going off and enjoying myself while the kids are somewhere on a mountain slope. Hubby is in the beginner classes too (although I dont suppose I will feel the need to check on him, after all he is a big boy lol) I think it must be a woman thing, or maybe its just a "me" thing! I think I am a bit odd lol. I am sure I will feel different when I get there but it is hard to think about at the minute without having the benifit of knowing the area like the back of your hand like you do. I would be discreet about spying on them lol.

Hi Dave Mac
Thanks for the welcome and the lift pass advice, I was wondering if it might pay to ring Inghams as they are the tour operators we brought hol with through a cut price internet site. As the way the pound is against the euro there advertised brouchure prices seem better, I expect the've been changed since it was published. Staying at the Haf so hoping for a good New Year.

cornishmaid ~ lift passes, at todays rate of 1.14 Euros/£, the prices are about the same as the Inghams brochure. So you could see if there are any currency movements in the near future, but I imagine these may be marginal.
You do have two fall backs, you can generally book during the coach transfer, and you can also book in resort. Hence, the lift pass is not a problem.
However, at New Year, the busiest week of the ski season, boot and ski hire is not just a cost issue, it may also be an availability issue. To a lesser extent, ski school the same. (A lesser extent, because class sizes can be elastic ) There are three ski hire locations in Niederau, two are good, one I would not recommend. The skiset one is OK, and is closest to the slopes.
Hotel ~ Haf? Is that the Haflingerhof? Harfenwirt?
My OH and I, along with friends are staying at at the Harfenwirt. There are several J2 skiers staying at New Year.

Thanks again for the info,we,re staying at The hafenwirt me & OH and 3 daughters. Wondering how big the swimming pool is or is it just a hot tub? Have looked at the jski hire site and will get on with hiring boots and skis as I thought it might be busy. I dont want to go all that way and have no equipment! Having read the last post will also sort out ski school. I see by their pics on the website Tony and George are still teaching.

karen72, yes that is the correct skischool. the head instructore is Sepp schellhorn. The school is very highly rated in Tirol. The other school wears blue anoraks, and I do not wish to pass any comment.
Cornishmaid. We were in Niederau in July and Herbert was cracking the whip with the builders. The new hotel extension was almost complete then. I cannot comment about the completion date of the pool, but knowing Herbert, it is unimaginable for it not to be finished. However, it is a proper pool. There is a larger dining area, and a bigger kitchen.
The hotel is called the Harfenwirt, harf being the deutsch for harp, an instrument that Herbert plays, errm, quite well.
That is an old picture of the ski school. We had a summer night this year with Tony, Sepp, George, & Konrad.
Tony retired from instructing three years ago. George retired at the end of last season. The passing of an era. Tony is to be found skiing the mountain on the first gondola every day. His is the style I have tried most of my skiing life to emulate.
My ski buddy, Mel & I were having a drink, and watching George work on his last working day, and he was still roaring at his class!
