Been looking at getting one of these to record some of my skis... think I might make the plunge after reading the good reviews here.

Having done a lot of videos with go pros (jsycrf on YouTube) I thought I would give some hints.

- keep the segments short as makes it much easier to edit
- do lots of different angles, makes it much better to watch
- use your poles as a mount. Seat post mount works well but will need something to make pole thicker to fit.
- if something funny happens stop filming afterwards then you will be able to find clip later
- copy and remove footage every night. It is a pain if you run out of memory on the slopes.
- remember to wipe lens if it gets snow on it, nothing more frustrating than filming best run ever and not being able to see anything on film.
- be creative with angles and mounts, it is worth it :)
- buy Big hard drive you will need it I have over 500gb of footage in 3 years.

Hope this helps

New to the forum but would like to share my experiences with the GoPro

Filmed the above over a weekend up in the Cairgorms a couple of weeks ago. I used a head mount (you can see the plate on top of my 5year olds helmet, all of the POV footage is from his head!), a sticky mount attached to a ski and the plastic part of the head strap looped through my ski boot power strap. I tried to keep all of the clips below 10seconds and the editing in iMovie took me an afternoon. Not bad for a first attempt. Maybe next winter I'll be proficient enough to use a ski pole mount - we've got the holiday already booked for Claviere next January :)

How was the sticky mount attached to the ski, I'm worried that the adhesive wont be strong enough and I would lose the camera, I've seen the YouTube clip on how to attach to ski boot so that's a good tip, which gopro have you got ? Great video

Hero 2, video was taken at 720/60fps, glad you like it, as I said it's my first effort!

We made sure we made the sticky attachment about 3 days before hand to ensure the bond was made. As an added security I made a poor man's lanyard. I found one of my wife's elastic hairbands, loop knotted it around the GoPro's locking nut and then just looped it over the front binding. That way if the camera became detached the lanyard would hold it to the boot/ski connection. Just make sure if you do this that you measure everything out as to where you're going to place the sticky, more through luck than judgement mine fit perfectly.

If anything I liked using the boot mount more than the ski mount. The ski mount does give you more of an idea of speed but a good 80% of the footage I had using it was unusable due to snow build up. I'd suggest mounting to your boot either using the method in one of the many youtube videos or my brainwave method of simply attaching it to the power strap. I don't know whether all power straps are the same width but the headstrap mount plastic fit perfectly on my Salomans
