Hi, we due to go for a week skiing to Sestriere and flying from Manchester to Turin.
I must admit I'm very worried about it all and travel agent will not allow me to change plans or get money back from insurance.
I am very un decided and i am not worried for myself as I am fairly healthy I think but I am worried to be a carrier. I work with vulnable people and I'm so worried I will spread it to them and they become ill.
I also keep hearing people commenting saying things like they should stop skiing trips now and so on. It's giving me a headache.
How do other people feel ?

I'd go. I think the media coverage is way over the top.
I understand the carrier point but what would you do for flu outbreaks.

The Italian government are reported to be preparing to lock down Lombardy (population 10 million) and 11 other provinces in northern Italy. The number of people infected has increased by more than 1200 in the last 24 hours. Skiing in these areas will be suspended.

It's probably game over for skiing in Italy this season.

Reports of groups returning home infected with Covid-19 from the Alps started to surface at the beginning of February. Iceland went from 0 to 40 confirmed cases in a week. Nearly all of the infected individuals were returning from either Val Gardena, Italy or Ischgl in Austria. Neither of these have been classified as high risk areas for Covid-19. It seems clear that probable cause for the lack of confirmed cases from these areas is simply insufficient testing and the fact that most people experience mild symptoms.

The safest bet at the moment is to assume that conditions for virus survival and transmission is somehow close to optimal in the Alpine ski areas and that these areas could be infested with Covid-19. I repeat, my take is that going skiing in the Alps, whether it be Italy, Austria, Switzerland or France is a high risk activity.

Manny2003: Maybe best to check FCO advice and ask a medical professional. I'm booked to go to 3V in two weeks' time and am still trying to decide.

Lombardy and other provinces will be completely sealed off. A new decree was signed early Sunday morning.

I'm still glad I started this thread as it's important to report what's happening! Just returned today from passo tonale Verona airport part of Lombardy and Trentino luckily for us just left in tome as it seems now ski resorts are restricted skiing our resort down to 10 percent open with queuing restrictions of single file on lifts ... to be honest if u are booked I would seriously worry about going not sure where insurance stands right now! We were lucky as our resort almost dead and didn't share chairlifts hardly at all plus restaurant dead hotel dead and other times we stayed in our rooms evenings we ate lunchtimes on pistes with no people around! The worrying factor was coming into uk we didn't have our temperatures taken at all no checks even though was easy doing that going into Verona 1 week ago arriving! The government should be doing more here re travel and what decisions people make about cancelling! We are now at home with 14 days self quarantine because we are sensible people no one is making us do this!
All in all we made the best of a difficult situation ski holiday we enjoyed it but not 100 percent like normal! Hope everyone can take something from this!
