I find singing to myself on the piste most enjoyable!

Mind you it's the only time I am allowed - being tone deaf.

I like that Killy video. In the vid he is skiing in soft snow between trees. Even those who find this style 'rubbish', might get their skis close together when skiing in the woods? Especially when the only alternative is left ski one side of a tree, and right ski the other side...

Ouch!

I often have a chuckle about those who think there is only one way to ski. I asked the question of one such person ~ In forty years time, will your style be accepted as the norm?

I have learned at least 10 different styles/techniques, (OK, I have been at it longer...), and I still use several of them, depending on conditions ,or how I am feeling. I do feet apart and together ~ my videos show that.

For the past two years, I have been working on a modification to a style, holding back the final part of the leg extension during the transition, then shooting the skis away on the turn. My ski buddies like it, and said it gives the effect of floating. When I get it right, it feels great.

So, my humble opinion is that we have to open our minds about what we can do.

I have a very open mind about what I can do on skis - i.e there's a lot of open space in my mind as there's not much taken up by ski technique

Ive only been doing it 10 years or so but technique has changed as has equipment (there's a definite symbiotic relationship there) - an open mind is a great asset on the mountains

Hi all

Just got back from VDI where my wife and I had a couple of private lessons:

The ironic thing was that he said my ski positioning was just fine and that my wife had her skis too close together for modern equipment!

We spent a lot of time decosntructing my old school "all action" turn technique and worked a lot more on carving the skis and letting the equipment do the work - worked very well as I came down the women's Olympic black run neither out of control nor knackered from working too hard!

Thanks for all the input into this thread!

Andy
