I don't think helmets will be made compulsory (certainly not here anyway) simply because of the problems of enforcement, although Eurosafe thinks otherwise http://www.eurosafe.eu.com/csi/eurosafe2006.nsf/wwwFreeText/headinjuriesarethemajorcauseofdeathorsevereinjuryonskislopeseurosafecallsongovernmentsandskislopeoperatorstomakesurethatthereisnoexceptiontotherulethateveryonewearsahelmetwhileonskislopes.htm
One of the reasons why the uptake here is so high (76%) could be because accident insurance is provided by employers. So along with the possibility of the claim not being met in full, you might also get a bollocking from your boss.
As well as saving the bobble what about putting a word in for the balaclava http://www.beardhead.co.uk/

And you leave us bobble hat wearers alone. Thats victimisation.
Most instructors in the US do seem to wear helmets these days. The exception might with total beginners on the bunny hill, because of all the skating back up the hill that the instructor has to do, causing over heating.

You know what Ally, amongst all of the dribble you post on here, that is a very very good point. I have never ever ever ever never in my life seen a ski instructor wear a helmet. But once it becomes compulsory for them, for safety reasons, to wear a helmet, then watch out all bobble hat wearers

Tony,
Many, many instructors in Canada wear helmets in an attempt to set what they consider a good example.
Over the last five years and multiple trips to Switzerland etc, I have seen more instructors wearing helmets - not universal by any means, but certainly a growing number.

Fair enough, but in all my visits to ski resorts in Europe I have not seen one ski instructor in a helmet.
