Cheers, popped in to Bartletts yesteday. Good selection (more than on the web-site) and spent a couple of hours trying out boots/footbeds. Got to a point where foot was fine (in a pair of Fischers), but was getting bruised across the outside of my shin (felt like brusing down the tendon). So have left it and am going back in this afternoon to try again. Naively I didn't realise that off the shelf footbeds were about £40 a pair which may push out of budget.

Fitting seemed ok, though nothing to compare it to.

The wife is also going in to try a few pairs today too so shall let you know how it goes.

I have discovered that when buying boots, you should not set a budget. You should end up buying the pair of boots that fit you the best, which will meet with your requirements, in terms of usage, flex, etc.
I ended up spending £230 on my recent new boots, and hadnt been expecting to spend that much, but I am glad I did as they are a huge improvement and are exactly what I needed.

Flex up the credit card.

DazUltra, if you are strapped for cash, get a decent fitted pair of Superfeet or Conformable footbeds. You can put them into any hire boot, for better comfort and control. Just remember to take them out when you hand the boot back )

We got some boots for the wife and yes, totally agree with above and have been looking at fit before price. Still to find any that fit me well as ran out of time and am not going to rush getting a pair. The quest continues.

Took Mrs H into 2 seasons this morning, looking for new boots. She currently has Atomic B Tech with 70 flex, and I had suggested going up to an 80 flex, so we narrowed down the choice to 2 options:
Atomic B Tech 80 £175
Salomon Divine RS 80 £200

She had this idea in her head that the Atomics would be best, because she had them before and they were comfortable. This, despite the fact that the reason we were there looking for new boots, was because her Atomics no longer fit well, and like my old ones, started to pack out and she was able to move her feet with the clips tightly done up without cutting off circulation.

Anyway, she tried on the Atomics and commented on how comfortable they were. Not the right fit then, says me. Que dirty looks from the assistant and Mrs H. Assistant plays about with the clips, and asks her to go for a wonder in them. Mrs H again says they feel "lovely". Assistant looks keen for a sale, but I ask her to try on the Salomons, reminding her what happened to me moving from Atomic to Salomon. On they go.....these feel tighter, she says. Good, better fit and longer lasting methinks. Not sure, she says, they feel like I cant move my foot. Brilliant. Now we are getting somewhere.
Try the Atomics on again, I said, so she did. OOOh says Mrs H, these feel too big now.

Sale made, linings heated up and Mrs H spends 15 minutes walking round the shop telling me how fantastic the Salomons feel, like a glove with a little light pressure all round. Me walking round with a smug grin on my face.

Shop manager pops up, says hello, quick chat about where we are off to, rememnbers I bought my boots in Jan, and offers them for £199 including a free pair of £15 socks, an £18 Barts hat and a free ski service when we come back.

Thats a result.
