I was out for a test drive in a new Subaru Forester Diesel yesterday. Very interesting. Drives like a petrol powered car, handles like a Subaru, accelerates like a turbo Subaru, but does 40mpg ) :D
The dealership was offering £25 worth of fuel for our car, simply to take a test drive.
Well I enjoyed myself )

I saw petrol at 89.9p per litre today. Thats equals approx £3.40 per US Gallon.
And with the current exchange rate, thats $5.03 per US Gallon!!!!!!!!!
A month or 2 back it was up to £1.26 per litre. Thats $7.05 - almost double what you pay in the states!
Outrageous

Worse still, the Inland Revenue expenses were set when diesel was at about 70p a litre, and have not been altered since, so whilst people say how lucky you are to get 40p a litre on expenses, it certainly no longer covers what it was supposed to, ie fuel, depreciation of your own vehicle, maintenance, tyres, etc.
Good old Government, always taking never giving.

I paid 0,98/ltr for 95benzin today and 1,01/ltr for diesel yesterday ... but it was as high as 1,48 for diesel in the late summer

In normal times, that would have meant an end to the quest for more efficient vehicles. The recent high prices and the current recession have convinced most Americans that something has to change. So I think we'll still be moving toward Euro type vehicals here, though maybe a little slower than might have been.
