No matter where you go there will always be a price spike during the school holidays. If you go to somewhere off the beaten track, the spike won't be as great as the one you are likely to experience going somewhere well known via Geneva. Check out Limone via Nice, Abertone via Pisa and the Alto Sangro area near Roccaraso via Rome or Naples.

It is an issue - I took my children out of school some years as I don't get to have the school holidays very often - something of mixed feelings about taking them out but offset by the savings. I guess you don't get the option to go at other times.
One thing I did notice is that the ski holidays in the USA & Canada don't seem to climb to such an extent as the European ones. My wife vetoed that option as she hates long flights!
If you don't mind driving then that may save the airline rip off so you just pay the inflated accommodation element.

I just think with schools these days you just have to tell them your going and thats that if they say no well it is hardlines we are still going ……. I had a right snotty letter from the head last year so I just with drew my labour from school BBQ, raffle prizes and any help I would normally give …. Manner and politeness cost nothing

I would never normally consider taking off in school time as I took on the job to work with special needs children so I have some guilt about actually going. However sometimes this kind if opportunity is just too good to pass. The whole trip is costing £730 all in......saving me almost £1800 compared to my husband going with me for a second time in February. The first week of January is fairly quiet at my school so hopefully I won't be missed too much. EXCITED to say the least
