Thanks guys.
Will take copious notes before we head off. Our skiing came on a lot on our trip to France earlier in the year. We didn't bother with ski school and instead covered miles and miles on red and blues.
It was also my first trip on my own skis and I got a lot of confidence from that though that might have been more about my heads than the skis.
Hopefully it should be a lot of fun…

tim 000 wrote:rocksy , i find the red runs down to the penken gondala easier than the runs down into the horberg bowl. so red 1 , 6 and 11 are`nt too bad . 6 has a short steeper bit at the bottom . so dont be put off as you are going up , it`s not bad if you go steady and it give you a bit of speed for the flat run to the chairlift/bar.
3 and 5 are a bit steeper in places . 7 and 27 from the top of the horberg are great , just be careful on 7 as it crosses black 17 and blue 7 a couple of times. dont do what i did and turn onto the black .

Spot on.

The area of at Rastkogel has lovely open cruisy reds and blues, but the best skiing IMO is over at Eggalm, a fairly easy ski over from Rastkogel, where the reds are beautiful and wide and pretty deserted too. Head over there as early as you can for the best skiing. Good cafe at the bottom there too by the big fast chair.

Westendorf - Alpbach and Saalbach-Hinterglemm are all good - and Alpbach has the added bonus now of the lift link to Auffach. Austria is great - gemutlichkeit rules!!!!
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!

Hi Folks,

we're just back from Mayrhofen where we stayed in Manni's. The skiing was great if hard work, isn't it always. Manni's was superb.

Thanks for all your advice.

Cheers,
Mark.

Lech although as mentioned already is expensive, is a great option as the skiing is amazing, but the village is very pretty as well! So if you fancy a break, walking around the village is a wonderful way to pass some time, taking loads of snaps.
