Andy - will do! I'll need to get online somewhere and update this thread which I have sort of hijacked.
Pablo, I've looked there thanks, couldnt see what I hoped for - Altibus doesnt do Chambery to ADH.
What I have found is: http://www.tourism-oisans.com/info-mountain-344.html which seems to say you can get a taxi from Chambery airport to the bus station, and then a bus to Grenoble bus station. Should be easy enough from there...

Sami,
I had a look on the altibus.com website just now, and they don't do Chambery to Alpe d'Huez directly (as you say), but they do Chambery to Grenoble bus station, and then Grenoble bus station to Alpe d'Huez. I have no idea of the time table or cost though, but it might work and then perhaps you'd only have to get one ticket which might work out much cheaper than getting a taxi and then two buses.
£100 each for extra plane tickets sounds like good insurance value to me. And another thing, if the ryanair flight is cancelled those seats won't hang about for long!

Pablo - I'm on a train to London! Been delayed by 2 hours. Arrive about 1130 just gonna go and camp it out at stansted. Have a sister in town but could only stop by for 3/4 hours. A hotel sounds like a good shot maybe an internet cafe.
