Thanks for that :)

You mean, entertain as in perform in a ski show or something?

Seeing as we're on a new page now, I'll put 'animate' back into context:

The laws governing sport in France say that it is illegal to 'teach, lead, guide, animate' without an appropriate professional qualification.

Leave it ally. It's not getting anyone anywhere.

Will you not be taking the j2 party to France next year now?

An animateur is usually a youth worker.

The Code du Sport stipulates that "in occasional cases within the framework of the educational activities of the holiday centre or in leisure centres, supervision can be carried out by the holders of the Brevet d'Aptitude aux Fonctions d'Animateur (BAFA)".

The training for the BAFA alpine skiing diploma lasts 6 days.

As TonyH says this is going nowhere, the provision of this service is illegal full stop. It is not only illegal in France it's also illegal in the other Alpine countries, Austria has just announced a crack down http://austriantimes.at/news/Sports/2013-02-26/47147/Controls_of_illegal_ski_instructors_inefficient and the Swiss have announced a general crack down on EU citizens who break Swiss residency and employment law.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Well, I remember being in one all-inclusive resort (in the summer) that had animators - staff responsible for entertaining guests mainly children. I guess in the context of the stated law it just mean that whatever the staff perform on slopes for remuneration, be it "guiding", "hosting", "entertaining", the said staff has to be adequately qualified. It could be that "animating" was added to prevent TOs doing the same thing as they were doing before but under a different name.

Tony you're playing the player again & not the post IMO.

I don't think Ally is leading anyone on this thread & is only stating her views as are the others who are disappointed at the hosting being removed.

Clearly Ally & others find hosting a pleasurable part of their ski trip & for some on their own more so, the fact that you & I don't shouldn't lead to ridicule.

With regards to her toe, she had skied moguls which resulted in her toe going Black & painful, when diagnosed it was found to be broken. This info was posted on here at the time & you may not have seen it, so why do you consider she needed to blame on something else?

Lastly I can tell you that we are not not looking at going to France for the 2014 trip as Italy is the favoured choice & decided before the hosting debacle.

Go Brooksy!
I don't happen to want ski hosting either, though I have used it in Austria and can see why people enjoy it.
But I am actually enjoying this debate and discussion and applaud Ally for voicing her opinions.
Nowt wrong with that.
