Ok guys, I need help!
After a couple of glasses the other night we decided we would take a week at xmas to go to wherever we could get the best deal and flights. After looking for 2 days solid I managed to get flights and a good deal to Scheffau in Austria :D
Problem - I have hardly done any exercise since last ski trip (and I remember how my legs felt for the first few days then!) as it is very hot where we live (UAE) we do not go outside much in the autumn/summer/spring. I do a fair bit of water skiing but that is mainly upper body exercise.
Can someone give me an idea of an intensive workout keeping in mind my fitness level to prepare me for th trip in exactly 25 days!

You're so good! I didn't go out on my bike but the dog had plenty of walks over the weekend.
Now I can't find my skiing exercise book :x I got it free when we booked a holiday with Inghams a few years ago, and oddly enough is by someone called Ingham.
Although my idea of looking for something is opening a drawer/cupboard and if its not the first thing I see then its lost forever.

Cwagner,
I do a mixture of going out jogging and power walking, and exercises inside - like squats, star jumps, jogging on the spot, ladies press-ups (since I got 'old' I can't do proper press-ups any more), balancing exercises like rocking back and fore on one leg, and stretching exercises like leaning against the wall etc.
What I have found is that I have to be very careful when I start exercising not to over do it. The first day, for example, I can usually run quite a long way, but if I do that then the next day my legs hurt, especially my Achilles tendon on the back of my ankle .
So I am very careful to take it easy the first day, and if I don't ache the next day then I gradually increase the exercises/distance.
Best of luck with getting fit in time for your holiday, and I hope you have a great time :D

Nelly, have you done your exercises today? (You did say we were to question you on a daily basis).

Hi Nelly,
Yes, that's the same book - we got ours for free as well when we went ski-ing with Inghams a few years ago ? '07. If you can't find yours you could always buy another one secondhand as well. It took me ages to work out how to do those exercises so I didn't want to have to buy a new book and learn how to do a new set of exercises.
I walk the dog as well - usually about 3 miles per day, one mile each walk, and I do my running while I'm walking the dog so if I've jogged 1/2 mile I've also walked 2 1/2 miles. Eventually I should be able to work back up to jogging the whole 3 miles.
I've been cleaning ditches the last few days - not strictly speaking a ski-ing exercise but it does involve plenty of bending and stretching and weight lifting. I'm trying to get the leaves and mud out of the ditches so that our road will stop flooding. Some of the ditches are on our own land, but some of the work is on the road so really the council should be doing it.
Keep going with the exercises :D

The fastest way to get fit is probably running, which if you can do off road the terrain changes will help aid balance & co-ordination. Then build in some cycling for power & endurance, & last but not least go swimming. Swimming front crawl is brillant for the core muscles & helps prevent back injuries. That is what I do anyway. :-)If I was you I would be careful not to over do it & pick up an injury before your holiday, because of the time constraints you would probably be better off doing some work at home on one of those ergo bikes or nordic ski style walking machines.
Good choice of resort for your hols, Scheffau is excellent. Enjoy.

I'm feeling good this evening...I got the step machine out, dusted it off and did a 20 minute session on it. I'm very pleased that it was easier than I'd anticipated so I am fitter than I thought. I will go for half an hour tomorrow.
My goal is to loose 10lb by Christmas!
