We're also booked with Thomson and flying out of Glasgow on 28th. I've paid for ski carraige and have always found in past that that included boot bag, so really never gave it a thought. Maybe I should double check. But it's pretty ridiculous what they now charge to carry skis if they then won't take a separate boot bag.

This is an important topic as more and more airlines are clamping down on us skiers and out to make as much money out of us as poss. I fly out on the 21st on a flight only deal with Inghams, so my contract is with them -and they allow 20kg hold luggage and 5kg hand. However my flight is with Flybe and they allow 20kg hold luggage and 10 kg hand luggage - but I could not book the flight via the Flybe website as Inghams have the Berne flights. It is important to check before you go because you don't want hassle at check in nor at security - as they can be as awkward as they like sometimes.

So if you see someone wandering around BHX looking rather larger than normal, it is me and I am wearing all my clothes and just hope that I can fit into my cattle class seat!!!
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!

i paid 30 squid for ski carriage, didnt have a weight on that, my boot bag and holdall had to weigh a combined 20 kgs so no problem taking sep boot bag as long as they both didnt go over weight, skis weren't even weighed just checked in at over sized items seperatley

When we travelled recently with Thomson those who had paid for ski carriage had no problems, it still included their seperate boot bags. They all had clothing in with their skis. Some even had 2 sets of skiis etc in the same bag. Everywheres different though you never know till you try!!

petden wrote:has anyone an answer :- i have what could be called a ski trunk
measures 300 x 200 x 1700 mm wheels one end handle the other
quite common now all equipment fit in skis-poles-boots-clothing-etc total weight 20 kg. plus i carry hand luggage 5 kg. what is the reason having to pay extra ski carriage ? also i saw a notifaction that clothing should not be packed with skis as carriage would be refused
does this mean that this new type of luggage cannot be used could someone in authority at thompsons please have look at this problem hopefully coming up with a sensible answer surely it makes sense to have fewer bags ie. luggage + boot bag + ski bag or is it going to be impossible in the future to take our own equipment with the reduced allowances any info anyone petden
