I second that! That first goggle tan is steezy. When you come back from your holiday all of your friends will say "How did you get such a tan in the mountains?!" They won't understand, but it's because you're so much closer to the sun - so on that note, you might want to add suncream to your list ;)
Have a great time mate, I hope you enjoy it - It's a great sport.
I would be jealous, but i'm going to Alpe D'Huez in 17 days :D
Skiing: the art of catching cold and going broke while rapidly heading nowhere at great personal risk.

Thanks everyone for all the help, Ive quickly popped into Millets, (Yes I know some of you will shack your heads at the shame) and purchased a snood/buff/headover/neckgaiter thing. Already on the case with the sunglasses just fished out the pair I use for cycling (not metal). Just got to buy the wheelbarrow for all the euro's.

Thanks again everyone

P.S just checked out the Les Menuires webcam, it looks great.....Im so excited!

PPS can anyone just confirm that jeans and trainers are all right for walking around in?

I'd be jealous too, but off to St.Gervais in 13 days.

Don't be nervous JamesH - it's great learning to ski in your 30's - it just leaves you full of regrets that you didn't do it sooner!!

Ohhhh i spent Christmas in Gt Gervais the snow was great.

I just got back from my first ever ski trip.

This is what i think you need:

boots for walking when not skiing
ski socks - at least 2 pairs
base layer trousers
salopettes
base layer top
fleece jumper
ski jacket
good gloves with wrist protector and removable linings
balaclava/neck warmer
goggles
sun glasses
hat
backpack
snacks (1 snickers + cereal bar per day)
flask + cuppa soups
camera
LIP BALM
sun cream

I see some of this stuff has been suggested - it was easier to list everything i took to make sure i didnt miss out on anything

have a great trip

What you wear is very individual I have never worn thermals, my preference is for a cotton under top, but these are getting more difficult to find, I do have a neck warmer brought a couple of years ago for -24 conditions, a jacket, salopettes and old pair of socks which I have had for 10 tears which are really comfortable, gloves, I'm a non helmet wearer so I wear sun glasses and goggles for poor light, and a hat, plus the most important item my hip flask with my preferred tipple at the moment cognac. Last piece of equipage is my vid camera which of cause Mrs W carries in her rucksack.

Believe me! :P I bet you seriously overpack the first year and you will know for the next ones to come......... I'd be jealous but will be in Arabba soon......
