It wasnt the one i found that prompted my post, but i googled this and it seems quite a commonly reported story.

I do think that tourist agencies will pursue this approach rather than the current Italian stance.
Lets hope Swiss proove a case in point by staying open.

I'd then look at Baqueira over the Alps as my best chance to ski.

Loads of things to happen before that though and hope the small ops can hang on...and the bigger ones for that matter.

I honestly don't know how much of the tourists skiing in Spain are international visitors, but I would assume the vast part of them are domestic which should prompt an opening of resorts at the earliest possibility.

The last two days I have gone for some simple skimo/rando in Pal, Andorra which obviously is great being able to do, but it really is frustrating looking around the mountains and seeing the chairs quietly swinging in the wind. Lets hope this exercise will come to use in not too long with the resorts opening and being able to go downhill full blast.

France, Germany and Italy keep resorts closed until Jan, Austria disagrees and Swiss stay open.
Scandinavia open too.
Will this split lead to local tourist agencies to lobby their governments.
The danger is that those countries that open will hoover up the floating trade.
I think skiers will book when they have confidence their holiday destination isnt a total lottery as to whether they will go..
Still early December which is very early for departures but certainly not for bookings.
I just hope the recent snow falls arent wasted and a good base is going down..

According to Laurent Vanat's 2020 International Report on Snow & Mountain Tourism https://www.vanat.ch/international-report-on-snow-mountain-tourism 90% of skiers visiting Spain's ski resorts are domestic skiers, see page 69. Whereas 92% of Andorra's skiers are foreign skiers, see page 27. As tourism is Andorra's main source of revenue, closing the ski resorts until January will likely have a very negative effect on the economy.

Yes particularly in France and Italy. Protests in many resorts and mountain towns. Legal moves by regional governments to try to overturn national decisions. Austrian areas seem more sanguine about it and focussed on the Xmas Eve opening for Austrians and Jan 7 for everyone else. Latest is that Andorra will now open their slopes for everyone a week earlier than stated before. January 3rd is the new date, which will allow Spanish tourists to come here and celebrate their 3 Kings holiday.

I did another skimo day today from the base station of Pal up to the top station (Cubil) at ~2700m, and the one slope prepped for skimo was packed with locals enjoying a nice day in the sun.

Andorramike. I read about this in DiariAndorra. Seems strange with French restrictions until at least Mid January, and Catalunya reviewing restrictions on December 21st.

Brucie, latest news I have seen is that France has now stated the 7th Jan, lurgy dependant, to allow the lifts to start running again.

Hope I am allowed to post an external link to a news site...
