The tips seem to flap a lot.

I think the Dupraz D2 might be much better.

She looked much better on the salomons but no doubt they would be better off piste

Chatted briefly to a guy in Switzerland last month. 1st pair I'd seen being used. His verdict: really good off piste in the trees, not so good on piste.

I think often there is more than just shape and construction going on in a ski or snowboard. It is how these things are blended that determines the outcome rather than just throwing in a bit of new design. Dupraz (and other snowboard companies) has been working with this design for a long time. The other consideration which is always an issue with the big ski companies, is that though they always like to have the latest, they are also very wary of being a bit too radical and having a product get a bad name. Just thinking out loud, sorry.
because I'm so inclined .....

BBR update test results

Just had BBRs for two weeks and gave them to a varied set of skiers (ages 35-80 )!
Very interesting results.
These skis were used in hard packed to 10 cm. of powder snow!

These are all "first impressions" !

Not for beginner or intermediate skier who hesitates to carve. One skier ( age 67 who does flat windshield wiper turns all the time ) continued to ski this ski as a windshield wiper,,,,just a lot faster ! Too dangerous !

Women who are carving loved this ski in easy soft snow and hated them on hard groomed slopes!

One skier who skis on Fischer SL compared his Fischers as Porsche's and BBRs as "Mac" truck (lorry) ! Set them on edge and you go into "autopilot" ! All the skier has to do is watch the scenery go by ! Hesitate to set an edge,,just for a second and you are picking up speed like a rocket !

All the action seems to happen at the front ( on that wide wide section ) !

One point is clear! Skiers either soar to another carve level and love ski or skiers hate looks ,,hate performance, hate heavy feel of ski !

My opinion after 5 days on them over varied conditions?
Not a hard course carver at all ! I have several skis that do better.
Not a powder ski since that tail makes you "slip out" of a power turn in powder !

I will be very honest,,,I am still not sure what this ski is for !
My carving racing skis are far better in speed and track!
My powder + 100 mm skis are far better in chest high powder !

In short I will try to like this ski,,,,but affection is fading!

It is clear if you buy this ski as a all one quiver ski that does it all,,,you will be disappointed !

Still have ski for another 2 weeks so will keep you updated !

Out of 50 skiers who tried them,,here is score;
28 negative or not sure ( several hated skis )
10 willing to try them again,,but hesitating
12 positive ( with four very willing to buy it )

My suggestion,,wait before buying!
Try them before buying!

For a regular person who doesn't live in a ski resort and therefore wants to buy or hire one ski that will cope with most conditions, bearing in mind the chances of having chest deep powder are bloody slim on a one week holiday they sound pretty good

I think you are spot on with this. It's about market positioning, and Salomon can make "punter friendly" skis, useable by lots of skiers.

I tried BBR 7.9 and I didn't really like it. I only tried it in powder, it skied OK but it wasn't the most enjoyable powder ride. The tails indeed were slipping out in turns. Too much work for my taste:)
