Hi,

Hoping someone has been to Klosters recently and has any tips for our trip. We, that is my family and I are going in January and will be self catering, so any advice on the best we to shop for food, ie cheaper supermarkets and if the mountain bars/restaurants are really expensive or not too bad. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have no first hand knowledge (other than the celeb magazines the missus reads) I'm afraid but I think that "cheap supermarket" and "Klosters" may be a tautology!

A quick check shows that the lift pass is 25% more then VDI or the 3V for far less terrain so I'd think cheap wont be an option

That doesn't mean that you won't be able to find value (the two are often confused after all) nad that you wont have a great time - my worst day in the mountains was still so much better than my best day in the office as they say!

Good luck and enjoy!

I have skied Davos/Klosters, though it's a few years go now! Memories of reasonable supermarkets in Davos, and the mountain restaurant food/drink not overpriced in the system. The strength of the Franc is a problem for most foreigners right now.

Are you driving out?

Thanks for replies. I would have thought it would be expensive before we booked, but the flights and booking a private appartament were cheaper than other resorts in switzerland and massively more so than verbier for example. However, I'm at a tangent here.

Bandit, we are driving from Zurich. Thanks for the info on mountain restaurants, its quite good to hear. I guess it will be what it will be, and there is not a whole heap we can do while there.

I'm looking forward to it so much now, its my first time in europe and only second ski-week in total.

You'll have a blast - and my apologies if you thought i was inferring anything else. Loved my ski time in Switzerland a few years ago

Fallscanbefun, with a car it will be easier. Switzerland has Co-op, Migros, Aldi and Lidl stores, so you can stock up on essentials before you reach the resort -)

There are plenty of supermarkets in Davos / Klosters:

Rätia Shoppingzentum (inc. Migrosmarkt), Promenade 40, Davos Platz
Coop Pronto Shop (open until 22.00), Promenade 63, Davos Platz
Coop Pronto Shop (open until 22.00), Promenade 143, Davos Dorf
Coop Supermarkt, Bahnhofstrasse 1, Davos Platz
Migros, Promenade 146, Davos Dorf
Denner AG, Bahnhofstrasse 3 and Promenade 108, Davos Platz
Spar Handels AG, Bahnhofstr. 1, Davos Dorf
Coop Supermarkt, Bahnhofstrasse 10, Klosters
Denner Satellit, Doggilochstr. 96, Klosters

Denner is the cheapest, but only has a small range. Migros is a bit cheaper than Coop but doesn't sell alcohol. If you want to check prices before you go, this online shop will give you an idea of how expensive things are http://www.leshop.ch/leshop/Main.do;jsessionid=89C87182E91DAFA7A06EB08BC3CCA0BA.mgbtomp12?currentMenu=SHOP_SUPERMARKET

As you are travelling by car you could visit one of the larger supermarkets on the way
