Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has any info on Flachau as a resort. We have mostly strong intermediate/advanced skiers in our group, with one or two newbies for school. Interested in good apres ski. We're not really on a budget. How is it set-up for linking to other resorts?
Looking to go first week in January, any idea of trends on snow there?
Thanks, look forward to leveraging from your brains!

I was there and I liked it a lot (I snowboard, would say lower intermediate). But more as the whole area not just Flachau. It is fairly low but with good snow record, village is spread out but still busy with good apres, very German/Dutch style though, not many English if any at all.
Terrain is mostly reds, but they are WIDE and not that steep.
Pistes are very long, cruisy, top to bottom is probably 1000m vertical, all the way down without any flat bits.
Lift system is out of this word, extremely modern.
Saying this the runs are quite samey, you can ski the Flachau mountian in one day easily, it is usually busy as it is next to the motorway.
Lots of huts with good food and cheap.
If you are experienced one/two days is enough in Flachau.
So.... next is Wagrain/Alpendorf. You ski down to the other side of Flachau mountain and take a short bus through Wagrain village to the oppsoite side, again lots of cruisy reds/blues, modern lifts, probably bigger than Flachau.
However best place is definitely Zauchensee, abut 10-15min on free bus. Much more varied terrain, higher than the rest, lots of easy accessible off piste through the trees. Amazing!!!
Flachuwinkl on the other side is small but nice, with good park and Burton Stash, kind of eco terrain park, through forest, with natural obstacles, good fun.
You have to be carefull with location in Flachau, it is spread out so look for the center. A few good bars there, with huge wooden restaurant/disco place. Always busy but rather tacky bands. Good experience though.
If you going with the group and have some extra cash to spend I would probably go (taxi) for one day to Schladming (same ski pass, much bigger but similar terrain) or Obertauern - do recommend it - completly different, very high, superb snow record, busy apres ski... but you will need to invest in Salzburger Ski Pass which is probaby 10-20E more than Ski Amade ski pass.
If you DIY there is cheap and efficient transfer service from the airport. In less than 1h!

Thanks a million guys, will give some consideratioon before booking. One of our team said that Flachau connects via ski lifts to surrounding slopes, maybe >100Km sking available. Any idea if this is true?

Look at this piste map it tells you all:
http://www.flachau.at/pdf/panorama_salzburger_sportwelt.pdf
As you can see on the piste map Flachau mountain is all lift connected, but if you want to ski the other side of Wagrain-Alpendorf you have to take short bus ride 5-10min. It is very easy though, bus is waiting on the bottom of gondola and will take you quickly to the bottom of the other mountain, no problem at all.
Another time you need the bus will be to get to Zauchensee/Flachauwinkl area. You catch the regular buses on the main road and it is not more than 10-15min. Easy.
According to Bergfex, Flachau is 111km (I doubt it is that much, they must have included neighbours), Zauchensee 41km, Flachauwinkl 18km, Wagrain 35km, Alpendorf 32km.... (Wagrain and Alpendorf are lift connected!!!)

The whole area is amazing, lots of cruisy slopes.
