The new approach is based on a "carving turn on the inside ski". If you are not a stranger to skiing, you will immediately notice that this contradicts a fundamental principle of long standing in the skiing world, i.e. turning by applying pressure to the outside ski. However, it does work and has been tried out by skiers of different standards, all of whom made exceptionally fast progress.

I showed it to two experts, one said that it has nothing new, another said that it is complete rubbish, so may be it is new after all... Google search on "pressure on the inside ski" gives mainly something like "Avoid putting too much pressure on the inside ski". However, it works so well - why is it not widely used and tought?

that is an impressive spot for sure!!

its also what the new BASI system is all about-early pressure with the inside ski-i learnt it all when did the course indoor but since being out here all season and skiing with racers, i dont think its very practical once you get past about 5mph! you still need a strong, straight outside leg to get a really tight turn

Yeah i remember learning about the new pressure system and its in the basi manuals. Now im not too sure about the old system of learning about the pressure of the inside ski when carving.
What i learnt about carving from a level 4 BASI instructor that Carvig is just latheral movement with absolutly no roation of the skis, applying pressure on both edges at the same time making sure that your balance is centre. While all the time remembering to Streceth and flex.Im not sure if i explain it right, its one thing to say it out loud and then another to write it. Also you have to make sure your hip doesnt drop or your shoulder
I havent done much carving lately, just teaching beginners most of the time

Sorry if I did something wrong here - I did not realise it is not a good idea to create another account. I am not very familiar with forums, actually it was the only time when I tried to discuss here 4 years ago but suddenly I was hit by many personal problems including death of both of my parents. After some time I was trying to remember the username but gave up and used another one. It seems that "Alpinski" was blocked, so I am using the username restored by Trencher and I apologise for the confusion.

Going back to inside ski, you can use it at relatively high speeds (not just above 5mph). As an extreme example Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway (Gold Medal in Men's Super-G 19 Feb 2010) used it a lot and in most difficult situations. But I am not talking about professionals - they are talented and intuitive. For intermediate skier it takes a bit of time to start using inside ski and get rid of the A stance, but after some time magic occurs. Very short and frequent turns along the fall line (wedeln) eluded me for many years - on inside ski this becomes easy and natural. Please have a look at the graph on my web site - this is pure theoretical mechanics but amazingly it works in practice. (I put my web site in my profile. It seems that the whole message disappeared when I used it here. Can I use web links in the chat text?)
