Best way to get to Alta Badia?

95% of the days, you will have no problem to drive on the road suggested. But if exactly on your arrival day there is a huge snow fall, it's possible that you are obligated to mount snow chains or at least to have winter tires. If you arrive in Munich, it should be no problem to get a car with winter tires ... thing that would be impossible to have if you fly in to the italian airports.

You shouldn't need them. I was there around XMAS and despite the massive dumps we had, they did a top job of keeping the MAIN roads (i.e residential streets etc) clear. If you have a back road going to some distant chalet then the odds are that it won't be cleared.
Of course, having chains and knowing how to them on are different things. Fitting them in the dark in -5c is even more different.

We are planning a trip to the Alta Badia region in Feb. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to get there? We are thinking of fly/drive but not sure which route to take. Thanks.

We are flying frm Manchester and our choices are proving to be a bit limited. It's proving difficult to get to Innsbruck so we think we will fly to either Milan, Munich or perhaps Venice. Which would you advise in terms of the ease of getting to Alta Badia?

Take Munich as arrival airport. From there it's easier to reach Alta Badia by a 4 - 4.5 hours car drive.
- From the airport take the highway south following the directions for Austria/Innsbruck
(attention don't go Austria/Salzburg)
- Short before Innsbruck you will see the signs for Brennero/Brenner and Italy
- Once in Italy, stay on the highway and exit at the Bressanone Nord/Brixen Nord exit
- From there drive east for about 22 km until you arrive to the town of
San Lorenzo di Sebato / St. Lorenzen
Here you will already see the signs to Val Badia/Corvara
- At this point you will drive south and in 25km you are in Alta Badia Ski Resort.

Thank you very much for this information, it has helped a lot with our planning decisions. One more question - should we be expecting to have to fit snow chains to the car for any part of the journey between Munich and Corvara or are the roads all snow free and easy to drive on?
