Hi
We are staying in Mayrhofen for a week on Saturday - is it easy to get to Zell and Kaltenbach from there with the free bus? Or does the ride take a long time?

The train is quicker then the bus. The bus is obviously a better choice. But actually that whole area is VERY easy to get around, it took me about 10 minutes by car to get from Zell to Kaltenbach 20 by bus with all the stops. Don't mean to be nosey but what's in Kaltenbach? Shoes are a pain, take a backpack.
*wishes the world would be more a more ski boot friendly place*
Have a super awesome time

Hi, welcome to J2ski.
From what I remember (it was 10 years ago), I always used the train (also free with lift pass) and think its quicker than the bus.
Check with the tourist office though, or someone else will chip in shortly no doubt!
Have a great time.

Thanks for the tip! Any more advice appreciated.
Also - does anyone know anything about lockers at the base of the Penken? Are they cheap? Are there also lockers at the base of the Kaltenbach and Zell lifts too? I guess it would make it easier to travel in shoes but not having to take them up the mountain....
Thanks,
Steve

Thanks, yeah we're not far from the Mayrhofen train station and there are 2 trains an hour to Kaltenbach (i have since discovered) and the lifts to the Hochfugen area are near to the station.... we would go there for the ski-optimal area:

I was at Kaltenbach last sunday. At the moment there is the BMW Winterfreude where you can test the latest BMWs for free - great fun
The pistes where also in a very good condition. And.... there is a great ApreSki Bar next to the station :D

Sounds good! Look forward to it. The station in Kaltenbach is very close to where the lifts go up, is that correct?

This is what Google maps says:
0,4 km – ca. 5 Minuten
but I think I will take 10 minutes (with skiing boots)
