Tino has planted a little seed in my head and i really fancy heading there in October, i have been reading up on it and it seems snow sure most of the year round, One problem T/O's dont seem to start that early so does anyone know any sites for booking hotels there, it seems that the best way to go is book seperate hotel, flights to Innsbruck hire a car and drive there.

So if anyone knows any good sites they have used please let me know, it is the last week of October i am heading out, thanks in advance.

Yes I have searched on here but it seems to be mainly about Mayrhofen which if I have read correctly is in the valley below, and i don't want a bus trip up and down the mountain every day.

I have talked my mate into it so dont mind s/c but would prefer a nice hotel h/b if possible.
I have also read that the nightlife is mainly in Mayrhofen but it can be expensive getting back up to your resort.

Or is Mayrhofen snow sure in October?

Thanks xx
age is but a number but why does it have to keep going up !!

firstly mayrhofen is certainly not snow sure at that time of year, secondly you could also consider flights into Munich and driving from there, the scenery would most certainly make up for the additional time. Try www.tux.at or www.zillertal.at for info on local hotels and booking etc, it's also got some webcams so you can keep an eye on weather conditions before you go!! I haven't stayed in Hintertux for a number of years but the Hintertuxerhof was superb last time I stayed, www.hintertuxerhof.at
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

I agree with everything freezy says. On the nightlife side of things, not a massive amount in Tux, but there is enough for a short break. Taxi fare down to Mayrhofen was 38 EUR 4 weeks ago. Only thing I would add is another hotel recommendation.

Stayed there a few times and its very nice.

In October? I doubt it, closed more likely.

I've never thought Hintertux is particularly good personally, Pitztal or the Stubai are more to my liking for autumn skiing. Sölden isn't bad either and should also be operating by then and if you leave it a couple of weeks then Obergurgl will be opening which will be better than all of them.

In terms of a bus trip up the mountain you need to resign yourself to that, it's going to be glacier skiing and you'll have to ride all the way through the lift system to ski which will take an age. In Sölden you can drive or bus a long way up and step onto the snow practically.

The reasons the TO's aren't going at that time is probably sensible, there's so little terrain open that a week would be a little dull, a weekend though is great or having a car and spending a couple days in a couple of places is good. Even though many hotels and pensions will be closed it shouldn't be a problem getting somewhere to stay though, we used to just turn up.

I think thier booking system is a little screwy personally.

I stayed there the first weekend in October last year and booked only a few days in advance. Lot's of hikers as well as skiers. The story with the Tux is relatively simple these days, if you stay in the village. They have 3 fast serial cable cars to get to the top in about 18 minutes from village, but at that time of year you can only ski the length of the final 2 (sometimes 1). I was very lucky last year and had 80cm of new snow the day I arrived, there was about 40km open, you can do about 1170m of vertical.
