Just a quickie, am I better off getting currency out of the Cash machine there (if there is one) or sorting my Euros out before I go??

This might not be of much use to you but last week I had the very same dilemma and I just went for cash.. didn't need so much because only have to pay for lunches but for convenience it is the way to go! Depends how much you think you'll need... or how much you are happy to carry about.

Make sure you take enough cash for your needs. I phoned my bank week before last to say I would be abroad and may use my debit card. Have heard from others that some peoples cards get stopped because they suspect fraudulent use abroad. Bank told me that the exchage rate would not be great and there was a 2.5% charge for using debit card abroad. Not sure if this applies to all banks.

thats a good point. I think I will contact my bank. I was wondering the same thing actually but was wondering more about the use of the debit card in Austria. Is it like the UK where every shop has them and you can use them for as little amount as you need?

As has been said personal choice whether cash or use card in resort to withdraw cash. here is a cash machine in Neiderau resort. Would suggest that the moneysavingexpert.com website gives good unbiased comparison in the best bank debit cards to take if you wish to use a cash machine in resort.
Personally as I was half-board I just took euros and a cash card 'just in case'.
