Hi, I have friends who have been offered a free ski chalet in Lanersbach, which we know is quite close to Mayrhofen. Does anyone know the area and how easy is it to get to the nearest gondola/chairs etc

thanks

Dont hesitate, do it. Halfway between the Hintertux Glacier and Mayrhofen. Lift access an bus connections no problem. Stayed here before in May for a few days on the Tux. Perfect.

Absolutely. Go for it. Its only about 5 to 10 mins from Mayrhofen in a taxi or ski bus.
Lanersbach is a small village with access directly onto the slopes via Gondola which takes you onto the beautiful and less populated slopes at Eggalm. You can link via Finkenburg onto the Penken and Rastkogel areas easily too.
Its a no brainer. Take it. And invite me too ) I'll do some ski guiding for you 8)

hi - just booked a ski holiday to Finkenberg. Very poor skiers and we will want to keep to the blues. Can you access Rastkogel from the Penkenjoch? One of my maps shows top of Penken to the Rastkogel lift very close together, and another map seems to show Rastkogel further round the mopuntain. Can any one help? Thanks Shehog

Between the Finkenberg Almbahn and the Rastkogelbahn there is the summit Penkenjoch. They are not directly linked other than back down the backside of the Penken and up the 150er Tux. I wouldn't recommend the backside of the Penken to beginners, especially if it is cold and dark as it can be icy. However use the lift system to go down to go back up again if you want....I have seen more of this in Mayrhofen than any other resort I have been to thinking about it, and I have done it myself on certain days when visibility was down to about 3mm with night-vision goggles.

Don't let this panic you by any means, Mayrhofen is a great resort and I spent only my second week there and came on in leaps and bounds.

Blue 8 from the park to the Horberg is a great run for beginners and it has a great and fast 8 seater lift on it. From there the resort is your oyster.

Don't be fooled either by the apparent size of Mayrhofen. Its big enough, but a relatively good skier/boarder can do the whole thing from the Tux Glacier all the way to the Horberg comprehensively in 6 days.

Have fun, you couldn't have picked a better resort!!

Yeah, what he said.
From Finkenburg take the gondola straight up to the top of Penkenjoch, and you can link in with the lifts and pistes down to the bottom of Horberg, from where you work your way across to the 150er cable car and over to Rastkogel.
The blue down the back of Horberg is a track and is not difficult but can burn the thighs a little, but its easy to take compared to the red which as Tino says is not the easiest. You can always go DOWN on the chair lift though.
Enjoy, its a great resort.
