Going out to Fernie on 21st March for two weeks and was wandering if people had any tips such as.

Is it better to book lift pass and skis over here (Been quoted £200 for just skis for 11 days per person )

We are room only so has anyone got any favourte places to eat / breakfast places

Thinking of only skiing for 11 days. Are there organised trips / excursions ( oh my god I sound like my dad )or shall we just get wrecked in a bar.

Any help much appreciated..
Cheers

Hi

I went to Fernie about 3 years back and had a whale of a time!!

For 200 quid I'd buy skis and take em with you - would only cost 20quid or so carriage. Can get 2nd hand skis off the bay cheap enough too.

Resort is fairly quiet at night but go to a bar called the Grand Central - Kokanee beer is ace!! Open Mic nights, etc etc....

Loads of nice restaurants out there to eat at, go and watch the fernie Ice Hockey too, that's a good laugh!

As for skiing, listen out for the dynamite early morning, they create avalanches to reduce the risks of them ocurring during piste hours. If you get on the slopes early enough you will not be disappointed with the skiing at all :D!!

Generally good powder skiing anyway! Lots of bowls at the top, which are good to ski in, lots of moguls and lots of nice steep blacks!

The resort offer free guided ski sessions. The guides congregate around the bottom of the main ski area in the morning and afternoon - one of the best afternoons skiing i'd ever experienced! They do expect a tip though I think??

You'll love it!! - I envy you massively!!

Kokanee Gold is what the real men drink 8)

Sleemans Honey Brown is excellent.

Hopefully the under lying facets have disappeared by the time you are out and they can start opening the real terrain.

Many thanks for the tips. A ski hire place at The Griz where we are staying has quoted us $23 a day for the skis for both of us which is a lot cheaper than Crystal.
The beer sounds good. Hopefully no chemicals like our stuff......

OK here goes from a real Western Canuk!

Bring your rain gear.

Spring in the Rockies - late march early April can see wet snow. The POW days are almost over depending on the year and with global climate change it is likely you will see wet snow and rain well up the mountain slopes. Ice and slush may be the order of the day.

Try to get west to Kimberly too. This little area is the "little engine that could". It is "funner" than Fernie and is even more lay back if that's possible. You will not see the moov stars but will see yodeling cowboys on the slopes drinin' bad whiskey...they switched after drinkn' beer.

Youtube The CORB LUND BAND to see what I mean. We take our fun seriously out in these parts.

You will have fun no matter what. Any more questions I'll dig up the Poop.

James in Alberta Canada!
