Hey,
I am a Canadian living in Ireland and me and my buddy have decided to take a ski trip in March into the Alps for the first time. We have decided on Austria as the destination.
I was wondering what the snow conditions would be like during this time of year, and any good areas one would recommend.
I have been skiing for a number of years so would be comfortable in most places, however my friend is learning to board...so somewhere with a ski school would be ideal.
Cheers,
Harry :)

st wolfgang is a good beginers area for your friend and also there are lots of other activities away from the skis to enjoy also . I also found the food there excellent nomatter where you go to eat so i would say a top all round resort.
there's no waiting for friends on a powder day

Have a look at Ski Amade - 45 mins from Salzburg airport. Loads of places to choose from. Ski schools can be found at each mountain. As for the snow - well if I could answer that I would be very rich! )

I am on the German-Austrian border north of Innsbruck. I recently skied Ehrwald and Lermoos just south of the German border. I had a great time. The more advanced skier would prefer Lermoos while the beginner would prefer Ehrwald (they are within 5 miles of each other). One nice thing is that you can get what they call the "Happy Valley" pass. With this pass you can ski Ehrwald and Lermoos as well as Zughsptiz and Garmisch in Germany (all within 30 minutes drive of each other - you can also take the train between the resorts). All offer ski school, though I'm not sure about the availability of lessons in English.

The snow is currently good. I can't make predictions for March but we have so far received relatively little natural snow. That's OK though because they have plenty of snow machines at all of these resorts and the skiing has been great.

Hope this helps!

Try Mayrhofen, excellent ski area, very good ski/board schools, plenty going on off piste, glacier, massive choice of runs, good snow record.
