Work starts on new chairlift at Perisher in Australia

Iainm posted 06-Mar

Perisher ski resort in Australia is upgrading its Mt Perisher chairlift.

Removal of the old Mt Perisher double chair will begin in coming weeks with the removal of the lift's haul line.

Constructed in 1961, the fixed-grip chairlift has carried Perisher guests at a speed of 2 metres per second, taking 11 minutes to reach the top.

The new high-speed, fully detachable 'Mt Perisher 6' will run at more than twice the speed at 4.5 metres per second and reduce travel time to just 5.5 minutes. It will increase overall chairlift capacity by 60% and a 22% increase in overall lift capacity at Perisher.

The 'Mt Perisher 6' will become Australia's highest lifted point, taking guests to 2,042m.

The new lift is expected to be ready for use from the 2025 snow season.
