Compagnie du Mont Blanc takes majority share in Megeve ski lift company

Iainm posted Nov-2015

Earlier this month, after a majority vote by the Megeve Mairie, it was agreed that Compagnie du Mont Blanc (CdMB) will take over operating the Megeve lift system this winter.

This should lead to changes to the lift system as CdMB have announced that they will invest heavily in the Megeve area.

Improvements are scheduled to be made at one of the few bottle necks in the system at the Lanchettes, as well as the Jardin and the main lift out of the town, the Chamois.

This seasons' Mont Blanc Unlimited Pass will allow guests to ski in not just Chamonix and Megeve, but resorts as diverse as Courmayeur, Verbier, Chamonix and Les Contamines.

Tour de France comes to Megeve

Megeve is also in the news as the 2016 Tour de France will have stages that both start and finish in Megeve.

The time trial from Sallanches will finish in Megeve and the penultimate stage will start from Megeve.

CdMB have bought a 62% stake that was owned by the village for €13.6 million, 22% of the rest belongs to the Rothschild family. They have agreed to invest €80 million over the next 10 years which is badly needed as some of the lifts date back to the early 1970s.

In 2019 they plan to take over Saint Gervais and Saint Nicolas de Véroce, presumably they will build a better link to Les Houches at some point.
