Australian NEWBIES

My family wish to travel to Italy in DEC 2015|JAN 2016.
My wife and kids are beginners who have all skied before, however not all confident.
Myself intermediate skiing regularly at Hotham (AUS) | Cardrona (NZ) | Hakuba (JPN)
Will need 4-5 star accommodation for wifey, who will not ski everyday,
Kids ski school every day
I am happy to research, however could anyone help me narrow my search ?

This year the snow has been slow to come in the lower Italian resorts, this will be a big trip for you so I'd be looking at the higher more snow sure r5esorts if I were you. If you look in the top left of your screen you'll see the SNOW page, take a look and see where currently has most snow to get an idea to start from.
The Italians generally grade their slopes higher than a lot of countries so don't be too put off if a lot of slopes are graded red and black, most of the reds will be a lot easier than you anticipate for the less confident skier. Tuition is usually of a decent standard for kids.
I've mainly skied La Thuile and the milky way resorts in Italy which are not yet fully open so hesitate to suggest for an early season trip. Italy is a lovelt place to ski and the food is lovely.... You'll have a great time wherever you decide.
Perhaps someone who has more experience of Livigno or maybe Cervinia will see this and be able to steer you in the right direction.

Hi to the Oz Newbies. Best snow in Italy is currently to be found in the Monterosa ski area particularly around Brueil-Cervinia with links to Zermatt under the Matterhorn and easy access to Champoluc and Gressoney St Jean. The area is stunning, the food is wonderful and the scenery magnificent!
We love the Italian resorts and particularly Sauze d'Oulx on the Milky Way (Vialattea) but our friends there say snow has arrived late and is limited. We are off to the Sella Ronda in the Dolomites in a couple of weeks and praying they get more snow before we arrive.

Monterosa ski covers Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna. Lovely runs, although perhaps not ideal for beginners as there are only a few blue runs and to enjoy the whole area you'd want to explore the three valleys. The views are, however, spectacular.
Cervinia is in Valtournenche and is linket to Zermatt. There are some easy blue and reds on Plan Maison which can instil confidence before venturing on Plateau Rosa and the rest of the resort.
The runs on the Swiss side are also good for beginners.
