Hi, I am new on here and have been searching for advice. We are family of 4 looking for skiing at christmas. Want to fly out on 23rd dec, Austria seems to have most flights that day but am worried about the height. Most places with hotels with excellent ratings on tripadvisor, and in our budget, are in the lower resorts.
Have found 2 hotels in Oberau with excellent ratings, but have 2 worries, will there be any snow and also, is the ski bus hassle, we did it last 6 years ago with a 2 and 4 year old , so have done doorstep/100 metre walk since, a bit spoilt really.
I just want to get it as right as I can, as if it all goes wrong, not only will it be a poor holiday, but I will also have the pressure of "Mummy took us away for christmas and it all went wrong!"
Also we are looking for blues and easy reds. Thanks.

Hi S-a-h, Welcome to J2ski.
I don't think there will be a problem with altitude (in relation to snowfall) at that time of year. MrEvs and went over new year this year, and are hoping to go again possibly over both Christmas and NY next year.
Perhaps Oberau is not the best for your group though. It has the least skiing of the three associated resorts. Niederau has more skiing, and also much of the accomodation is within the range you mention, either on the doorstep or within 100m. Plenty of blues to play on at the bottom. Generally the reds are easier in Auffach. I understand that taking two little uns (10 and 8 now?) on the ski bus could be a nightmare, although if you miss peak times it will be much easier for you. On the other hand, most people take the skibus in the Niederau-Oberau-Auffach direction for the day. If you take it from Oberau to Niederau in the morning (and obviously vice versa at the end of the day) I wouldn't be surprised if you're on the bus by yourselves.

I wish I could meet the person who first decided to strap 2 planks to their feet and throw themselves down a mountain

Thanks for your help, if snowfall is usually reasonably good, I might give it a go.We are looking at the holiday mainly being a christmas break rather than a skiing break.
Have done various french resorts last 5 years and hubby had knee acl reconstruction after a fall skiing last year.
We are going to take it easy for this holiday, so have a toss up between 2 hotels, 1 with pool which kids will love and 1 with christmas celebrations which they will love.

Personally I'd would go for the one with the pool. Chances are the other one will have Christmas celebrations as well. Remember a pool is for the week. Christmas just one day!

I echo Emma's comments. If you decide to stay in N, rather than O, you will be within easy no-bus reach of the beginners' slopes. I've never been there at Christmas, but judging from the still Christmassy feel I've encountered there in January , I can imagine it's pretty special.

Could anyone recommend hotels in N, the 2 I found in O on tripadvisor had 100% satisfaction and sounded fab, with superb food, a must for us as we are right foodies.

We're staying at the Enzian next week (7 sleeps!), I've read good reviews so will let you know how it is.
I'm sure Mr Mac will be along shortly to advise too.
Welcome to J2ski! :)

Think I have hit a problem, flights I have found for good hotels in N seem to be Salzburg on 24th.
We really need to go on 23rd, would I regret booking O when I get there and visit N for the day.
I was thinking O was good for us to potter around and ski the little blues until we bused over to N.>
