I'm not convinced you would regret booking Oberau s-a-h. I've not explored it fully (only been through on the bus). If you're looking to potter on blues until you catch the bus I don't think you'll be disappointed. Oberau is a really pretty village with (amongst other things) a cafe which apparently serves out of this world cakes. I've not taken the time out of skiing to check for myself yet. It also seems to have a few more shops than N, which could be useful if skiing is not your main agenda item.

We had a rough year last year, so just want to make xmas a lovely relaxing break. It won't be like other hols when we are there only to ski, not sure how hubby is going to be yet, post op, so intend to lightly ski xmas eve and just enjoy the festivities. Just don't want moaning when we bus out later, that it's too much effort.I am prob worrying about nothing, kids are very able, goggles, gloves, skis on without help,it was Saalbach we did on the bus. It was like sardines and I had a baby bag and buggy plus 2 toddlers and skis! The young snowboarders on the bus were so helpful getting us on each time, so if we coped then this should be easier.
The hotel without pool has carol singing, torchlight walk and Santa on xmas day,and I've read that the locals enjoy eating there.
Iam just waiting for 1 of you to say book it!

Happy to oblige s-a-h...

Book it! Whichever one! I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time and it sounds like you all deserve it.

Thanks Emma, You have been a big help. Anyone else stayed at Obertau, it does sound nice.
Choice of xmas special near the bus stop or
the pool one backing on the nursery slope.
And I know we will venture out, so I am thinking the near the bus stop one.

Sorry s-a-h, am reluctant to influence you on that decision :-) I think it has to be what's best for you guys. If it helps, there is a leisure centre in Oberau with swimming pool, sauna etc.

I think we will chew it over tonight with a glass of wine, just want to be sure than Obertau is worth looking at and stop myself fretting about Niederau.
Think I am getting panicky in my old age. ( Prob didn't help with the accident last year.)

Top idea. And don't fret. They are extremely close to one another. The bus runs regularly throughout the day, and if you're in N after it stops the taxi fare should be minimal.

Where's Dave Mac? I'm starting to feel the weight of responsibility of this advice now! Anybody? Heeeelp!

I've skied Niederau and Auffach, but we didn't use the bus as we had a hire car which made getting about easier to manage - had you considered doing that s-a-h?

From what your requirements appear to be, this area may just be exactly what you are looking for, as you will experience a quaint little place, and there is some skiing t be had if you want to get up there and have a bash at it too, albeit a limited area for more adventurous skiers. But as I say, from what you say your requirements are, this is probably a good area for you to visit.
