How much did you pay for yours and whats the place called?
Oldboarder, yes I have just taken a look but very little self catering chalets which is a shame

It's a self catered appartment for 4 in a block called forclaz in chamonix-sud which I'm told is 3-4 minutes walk from the town centre. We paid 750euros for 4 of us so very reasonable!

Mike,
I went to Chamonix about 7 years ago with the lads. We stayed in the Flegere area and were probably 5 mins walk from the gondular and 10 mins walk from the town.
The skiing is fantastic, although it is split across 5 separate villages. Le Tour I think was probably the easiest of the resorts. But there is some great skiing to be had at Grand Montets and The Valley Blanche is worth a look too.
The nightlife is also brilliant, 4am was the usual going home time for us! Five hours sleep is plently!! :D
There is an abundance of bars/nightclubs to have a go at and you won't be disappointed!
Hope this helps :D

Mike - how's the search going?
Looks to me like the primary criteria is your accomodation?
If it were me I would be looking for suitable accomodation - size, proximity to slopes, cost (and sauna, jacuzzi, swimming pool, helicopter pad etc etc) - and then checking out the skiing.
At the time of your planned trip snow cover in an avarage year should be good pretty much everywhere which opens up your options to smaller resorts and lower resorts.
