thanks for all the great responses, very helpful. We have chosen morzine or chamonix because we will be flying into Geneva and we have found two catered chalets there that have great reviews and are reasonably priced for us. At the moment I am leaning towards Morzine as it seems more beginner/family friendly.

I think the options are probably bite the bullet and pay extra £550ish and go the first week to Morzine or go 2nd Week in April and go to Chamonix.

How about Paradiski? I've stayed in really good chalets in Peisey Nancroix and Monchavin Les Coches which should be available at a decent price but have the benifit of a huge ski area and high altitude skiing.

This season is very unusual in terms of snowfall and you may be lucky that the conditions stay good all the way into April but I'd like to have a high altitude "banker" just to be sure!

We thought about paradiski but the transfer from Geneva is going to be too long and too costly, we can only fly direct to Geneva.

OOH be careful ! Morzine is a lovely little town and short journey from Geneva and good areas for beginners/intermediates but not always very snowsure. We went in mid March 2010 and there was loads of snow up at Avoriaz and on the higher peaks to the other Les Gets side but it was quite slushy at the top above Morzine and Les Gets where several runs all come down to one area up in the mountains with a choice of several chairlifts departing from it. The runs back down to Morzine were very icy, but there are cable cars to get back to the town. We had booked to go to Morzine again in 2011 mid March but made a late alteration to our booking when a friend out there sent a photo of ponies out grazing the grass on the blue runs !! This year is so much better snowfall wise, so it might be okay. Chamonix is quite disjointed and you'll have to get trains or buses to the different ski areas. It's probably 2.5 hours transfer from Geneva and about 75 euros per person return to Les Arcs but you'll be able to ski in that area well into April. Done it several times. Well worth the journey. La Plagne is also good for beginners Good luck ! 8)
Yeehaa !

Many thanks, can you tell me who you use for transfers to les arcs, I have searched several sites and they were coming in at around 500 euros for the 3 of us return.

While Morzine is low you have access to high slopes in Avoriaz, but it takes about 20 minutes by bus.
I'd go for Chamonix

...or you could take the Super Morzine gondola and ski the rest of the way!

I've never taken the bus.

I have lived and skied in both resorts and Chamonix has better snow conditions at that time of year but is not great for families where as Morzine is lower but has easy connections to Avoriaz which has good snow until the end of April.
