Have you hear about the "secondary crash" incidents ?
Statistics indicate that more people die from secondary crashes,,,that is crashes (in cars) after initial accident ! Seems human nature is such ,,that we all want to see "accident" !
So it is with skiing!
Beware of a group of fallen skiers! They are like a magnet to others! Accidents will follow!
Best to make a large X above fallen skiers with skis! Get friends to stand above fallen skiers to protect them.
I know you stop.....question is how do you stop? On top of them! beside them?
Best to let ski patrol do work!
I once saw a person do more harm trying to lift a fallen skier who had a broken leg!
My best friend last year was hit by another skier. he is 6' 2" ! He insisted in skiing down. We found out later he had a fracture ankle. Fractured clavicle and a fracture rib!
Best to stay down,,Rest and let sled come to get you!
Best just protect fallen skier ..from other missles!

I am a naughty boy Pavel as I normally ski with poles that have pointy bits at the end it never fails to amaze how quickly some skiers change their line when they see a couple of my poles pointing in their direction

The best "defensive move" on ice is still;
1. Spot it
2. Avoid it ( because of bodies all over the place)
3. Go where it is steeper (90% of beginners will not go there)
In the final analysis,,,,,,just put it into your drink and sip it !
There is one moment in the spring season when I look out for ice! It is in Spring since it gets "softer", so edges can bite into it. So while others are skiing in semi-snow/water,,,, I go by on ice !
Enjoy it !

In this incident,on the Skiwelt, it was at the bottom of a section of a steep black run, and towards the end of the day. I was the first to stop, although the run was very busy, as it was towards the end of the day.
After positioning the skis, I spoke to the lady, she was German, and ascertained she had a severe and painful injury. I phoned the mountain rescue from my mobile, (I always keep the phone number of the lift company stored in my mobile)After speaking a little more to the lady, she agreed that she would like me to try and remove the skis. This I did carefully. Then I straighted her legs, to her immediate relief, (note that I have received training on this!)
I then positioned her skis to the side of mine, as additional protection. The ski patrol arrived shortly afterwards, and I stood back and let them do their excellent work.

Teaches you front to back balance.
A "neutral" ski won't cause you drama on ice

Love that picture since it illustrates so well how to protect the fallen skier ! So many accidents happen due to secondary crash. That is other skiers hitting fallen skier or "spectators" !
Those double X skis are great. Who is that white jacket fellow watching patrollers! Husband !
Sometimes it is good to have a person above the X skis watching and waving off skiers wondering what those free skis are doing on slope! I know it seems evident but,,,,
I had a close "near death" experience not on ice but water ! All was clearly indicated but some people just do not get all the signals!!!
I was scuba diving in a lake and had the international flag for diving floating on a large inflated ballon! As I was coming up ,,I heard a whinnnnnnnnn coming at me with full speed. A boat !
I dove deeper knowing that I was close to surface.
The blades,,cut my fins off !
You can imagine the scene !
The reason given by the boat driver,,,,,he wanted to see what this flag was all about ! Thuuuuuuu !
Same in skiing. I have seen some skiers ski between the X skis! No room to stop !
Hope lady is fine !
Nice man!
As far as "neutral ski",,you are very correct! It does not cause drame,,problem is most skiers lean back out of fear,,,,,thus causing more grief on ice!
Skis also teach you how to put pressure fore and aft,,but most skiers do not listen to skis !
Yes on ice,, stay neutral,,stay soft,,,,trust your skis to pass you by the ice ! Most skiers do not trust themselves !
Great advice !
