Take a look at Dave Macs videos again,,,,,I know it will be hard,,but take your eyes off Dave Mac and look at slope surface, in short the snow on slope!
Notice one thing?
Look again at videos!
Notice nice soft loose snow! The very best to carve on! Edges bite! Now I know why Dave Mac goes to this small Austrian village all the time, and refuses to ski with me!
Back to ICE !
It is not so much ICE that causes problems to many skiers. It is the SUDDEN appearance of an ice patch or ice area that causes problems! Great soft loose snow,,,,then wham,,,,ICE! Bam,,, on ground while skidding sideways! Panic time!
How do you avoid this?
First never never ski down a new slope or run fast the first time! Check out trail first with slow easy skiing. This is what I do.
On first runs, my boots are never tight,,in fact my top two buckles are not even on. I ski relaxed to warm up, to let feet settle into boots, to "feel" skis on new slope!
After two easy runs, I know terrain, I have warmed up, my feet are saying "ok,,,, go go go " !
Then I buckle up! Then I ski or at least I try to ski like Dave Mac!!!!
Hope this helps some of you!

Re garding loose boots, I might find it difficult to leave the top two buckes undone. My boots only have one buckle. I know this is not fashionable, but it is my way.
I love the engineering principle to push the foot forward into the boot. My boots and I celebrate 25 years of joy together this year!
And the videos might indicate that I don't have too much of a problem with these old single buckle boots!

What size boots do you wear?
You have no idea the "problems" I have with my feet!
1. One is bigger that other
2, One has a serious (growth) just below the first joint
3. Legs are not symmetrical
4. Arches are different
5. One foot has been burnt, so have a large scar ( which is very very sensitive)
6. Serious sweat issue
7. Feet tend to go inward, due to early childhood "pigeon-toe issue"
You can see Dave Mac that I am very selective in my boots !
Look around, the new boots have some great choices!
Do not wait until boots "fall" apart,,,,,
Respectfully,
Pavel

At end of ski day ICE is great for;
-applying to black and blue areas
-dropping in glass with rum
-great to drop into front of girlfriend's blouse
-etc,,,,
I am sure others can find more uses !

Now that really is a great use for ice
Many seasons ago, we used a large chunk of ice instead of a ball to play rugby on the way home from a nightclub. Sadly, my friend completely missed a pass and was smacked in the face with this chunk of ice. In our drunken stupor we found this hilarious. However the following morning, my friend had to have 18 stitches inserted into his nose and cheek
To this day his girlfriend still thinks we got into a fight and will not believe how it happened.
