Welcome to the site KT. Hope you have a good one in Mayrhofen, and that you quickly overcome the snowboard bit and convert to skiing! You will love the holiday.

Not being a boarder, I can only say that Mayrhofen has all the best things that boarders need.

My own resort is Niederau, would not recommend for boarders, the link ups at the top are flat, and so involve a lot of effort.

However, if/when you convert to skiing, now that's a different story....

YES

If you don't then go to a doctors and ask him to reset the "have fun" switch inside you and try again 8)
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

Hiya Kate

Mayrhofen is now somewhere you cannot enjoy yourself. There are a number of threads on this forum where I have ranted on about the pleasures of Mayrhofen. I was introduced to it 3 years ago, and have been going regularly ever since, and my best friend has been going since he was 8.

Its low down in the valley, so often doesnt have snow in the village, but dont panic, because once you get up the gondola, there will be plenty.

If you are learning, you will probably be going up to the classes on the Penken mountain, served by the yellow gondola cabins from the centre of the village. However, you might also appreciate the relative quiet of the Ahorn, served by Austrias largest cable car just over the bridge from town.

There is a boardpark on Penken mountain, and the whole place is as board friendly as it gets. Some long cruising runs over the back of Eggalm and Rastkogel, whereas the main Penken area is more challenging generally. There is so much to choose from however.

Nightlife is whatever you want it to be. I imagine you will end up in Scotland Yard, a pub aimed at boarders, but there are some nice places to eat and drink down the main street. In particular, Coope and More, and dont forget a beer in the Happy End, which looks like a conservatroy directly opposite the main Penken gondola lift.

I would recommend hire you gear for the first time, and buy if you decide you like it. Best place to hire is the shop underneath the cable car station. They are very helpful and friendly in there.

Have a great time.

I can snowboard aswell to intermediate standard i guess! Just i find skiing more fun-its just friendly rivarly, on my part anyway. Snowboarding is sore on the arse to learn so buy impact shorts or something ot that effect!
