The Winter Olympics and recent weather in the UK has led to a surge in interested in snow sports according to Snowsport England, the national governing body for snowsport in England.
"The recent successes of Izzy Atkin and Billy Morgan at the 2018 Winter Olympics have put snowsports in the spotlight and generated a surge of interest in the UK's artificial slopes, with some slopes claiming to have seen more than a 20% in participation increase since The Games began," a statement from the organisation claims.
Those inspired by the recent snowfall and Winter Olympic performances can currently take advantage of Snowsport England's PyeongChang to Piste campaign (http://www.pyeongchangtopiste.org.uk), which offers discount ski and snowboard lessons, events and taster sessions at a range of artificial slopes across the UK. With some facilities offering taster sessions or a block of lessons from around £12 per head it's never been easier to access the slopes.
'PyeongChang to Piste' is running alongside Snowsport England's existing national participation campaign, 'Go Ski Go Board' (http://www.goskigoboard.org.uk), which features further detailed information on how and where to get started in snowsports. To find your nearest slope and discount session visit the Go Ski Go Board activity finder here: https://www.goskigoboard.org.uk/activity-finder
As part of their PyeongChang to Piste Campaign Snowsport England has also confirmed dates for their National Schools Snowsport Week (http://www.nssw.co.uk), which will run for the third time in April, just weeks after the conclusion of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
Taking place from Monday 23rd until Sunday 29th April 2018, dry and indoor slopes and clubs are set to run free or heavily discounted activities throughout the week, aimed at giving young people from all types of backgrounds the chance to try skiing or snowboarding. The sessions will be open to primary and secondary schools, as well as sixth form colleges across England and Wales.
'PyeongChang to Piste' is championed by Snowsport England, alongside British Ski and Snowboard, Snowsport Scotland, Snowsport Wales, the Ski Club of Great Britain, SIGB, In the Snow magazine, the British Ski and Snowboard National Foundation and with the support of Ellis Brigham and Switzerland Tourism as key partners.
