I've had what sounds exactly like the same problem.

After trying a number of boots (currently Nordica), I saw an excellent boot fitting specialist who told me simply to take out the insole and ski without it. The problem was my high instep, so I needed more height inside the foot of the boot to give my feet room for circulation.

He also advise undoing the boots at every lift and possibly ski-ing with them undone at the end of the day...obviously this gives a bit less control, but it means not being in agony!

I've followed this advice, and it has worked...my feet used to be in exactly the sort of pain you've described.

I've done the same with my tennis shoes - pulled out the insoles - as my feet used to hurt in the same way at the end of a tennis match.

I'm the same with shoes, I really am quite surprised at the number of people with boot problem

Ski Boots are a pretty unforgiving environment for tender tootsies. How many pairs of your shoes are made from rigid plastic for the soles and uppers?

Once boots are properly fitted and set up, this skiing lark is easier :D

I still wonder how many people blame their equipment and not their technique

I did wonder this when I posted originally but no one mentioned anything along those lines - are you saying now I could have saved myself a lot of money!!

Actually as my feet lose feeling (or have too much feeling!) whether I'm skiing, walking or sitting I assume there is something wrong with my feet/boots and not my technique - I'm very good at sitting :-).

My Instructor did also say that once my boots were sorted there'd be no stopping me and I would no longer be in the same lessons as my OH - incentive indeed to get them sorted me thinks.

I can only speak for my self, I have owned two pairs of ski boots, I kept my first pair for 14 years. I only got rid because they were started to look a bit girly blue with a bit of pink, that should cause a stir here, but they were comfy, changed to some Rossi's took me twenty mins to decide which pair, then the shop wanted to fit them heat them up, boil my feet, tickle my toes, hiss through their teeth and by now I'm by now getting a bit pissed off because I'm missing my ski time. Every time they saw me they would rush out of the shop to ask me how my boots are my answer was always fine because they were and still are. I remember the cost of the boots it was 229 euro with translated last year to £176 and hopefully they will last me another 14 years... so I guess I am just lucky.
