1 metre of snow on the Arber today and the first lifts open tomorrow.

The great Arber is not open yet but heavy falls of snow are forecast and the cable car is due to reopen that weekend at the latest. www.arber.de 2 hours from Munich by car, accessible by train but the ski bus probably won't be running that early.

Further East (Bavarian Forest): we have had a cool autumn and overnight temperatures have been below freezing a lot of nights recently so snow has a better chance of settling when it comes. We are not high altitude but things are looking good for a November-April season as most winters.

This is about Slovakia - the High Tatra mountains are a long way from Germany.

Close to the Arber mountain for downhill and snowboarding, cross country skiing close to house, skibus a few metres away. Local restaurants and apres ski within walking distance. Great place to learn to ski at very reasonable prices compared with the glitsy resorts.
