Porcelain and ski boots don't mix well. But don't let that put you off.

One reason why I always tried to avoid france. There were plenty of them in Serre Che too.

Looks like you might want to avoid Italy as well then? Both Claviere and Prato being in Italy.

They are definitely more rare than they used to be though

Those squatting toilets are another reason to avoid Prato Nevoso. People did not always hit the spot...ugh.

I've been to Claviere, stayed at Passero Pellegrino. Nice place. Skiing nice enough locally, but we got a mini bus to Sestriere at the end of the week as it is really too far to ski there and back and actually get a chance to have a good ski once there.

I have not been to Tignes, but would choose to go there over Claviere now that my kids are older and we are able to cover a lot of ground.

Not much use! Soz

one more thing. what are the opening hours for the lifts and the slope?

Have a great time, it's one of my favorite areas 8)

Ditto Ian!

I am off on Saturday as well, but for reasons financial, not to the Grand Massif.

I am sure we'll have a great time, and it's time for a change (I've been there 5 times in 3 years!) but it really is a nice place.
Last year we went to the 3 valleys as well and much as I liked it, I don't have the desire to return as I did to the GM.

It is also a great place for a short break....but that's another thread....

Neige et Roc! How lucky are you?
The food is fantastic, there's a small pool and the bus stops just outside. (I think, we had a car, but very close)
Loads of ATMs and the lift (Gondola) opens around 9am and closes 4.45(ish) check, but they won't close if you're waiting of course!
When we stayed there we had a party night on the Weds, there were loads of Belgians in the Hotel who were great Fun.

I believe that a ski club based in Gloucester (dry slope of course!) will be testing them soon.

Someone who takes part may see this thread and post a report...or maybe they won't.....

Was wondering really if testing on a dry slope is any indication of their suitability on snow?

Hi,
I've been to Samoens a few times at this time of year and I would also say get a local pass to start with. You could buy an extension if you need to after a few days, but it's large area and if you've not skied a lot it will take quite a while to get to Flaine.

In fact, with the local pass you can still ski TO Flaine, just not IN Flaine. And the runs coming back are challenging. Beware of this if you do venture over.

The free bus goes right round the Village.. where are you staying? it has bus stops right round the village and runs a continuous loop. One place we stayed it was quicker to walk to the Gondola.
Don't fret if you get there and it is raining and there is no snow in the village, it is low and hopefully will be snowing higher up.

There are a few runs at the top of the gondola for you to find your feet, then 2 chairs to take you to the next level. From there you can ski back to 1600 or take another chair to the Tete des Saix. You have a choice of two, one to your far left and another closer on the right that will bite the back of your legs if you're not careful! From here you can go to Morillon or Les Carroz. Both nice places to get your confidence.

It is not cheap in the restaurants but I've read on here this year that Fliane is even more expensive than Samoens.
If by the end of the week you find that you've had enough then Flaine is certainly a treat to ski.
Have a great time and let us know how you got on.

V5 log book
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 22 Replies
We've driven in Europe more times than I can count and never been stopped...which is lucky as, to my knowledge, we've never taken the log book before.
I might be wrong and if so I apologise to car docs organiser....but I am pretty sure we haven't.
We will of course make sure we have it on all future occasions!

Thanks for that info!
