La Plagne Info
Started by User in France, 41 Replies
My sister called me from La Plagne this morning.

Says it snowed all day yesterday and all the runs were quite hard work. My Mum who learnt at 60 and is now 68 is coping really well with the conditions.
(I can't help admiring her)
So...for anyone heading out there next week, or for Easter...you've got a new covering! In fact more on the way too.

They also use the Sporthotel Royer in Schladming, but thats expensive, so it might be that I use the Rossl. It looks a damned site better than the clubhotel in Serre Che I used.

Not sure about the other Italian resorts that Equity/Rocketski do that are not in the Milky Way, but I've been to Andalo and it's really nice.
Great place for kids and early skiers. Won't suit people who want miles of piste, but recommended all the same.

Driving to Chamonix

You should be able to work out the time it will take by looking at theaa.com

Just had a quick look and:

From: Calais, France
To: Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France
Distance: 896.5 km (557.0 miles )
Time: 7 hr 58 min

But of course, this is based on no stopping.
We drive down each year, for Samoens we allow about 16 door to door (from South west, England and including ferry)

Don't know about snow chains for that road though.

BASI LEVEL 1
Started by User in Ski Technique, 48 Replies
My nephew did his BASI 1 through a scholarship with Interski. He did his shadowing in Meribel with an instructor he knew, while working in a bar in the evenings.

Last season he worked in Morzine, cleaning chalets and this season driving transfer coaches. The level one course has not been much use to him yet, but of course it is a start on the ladder. He needs to save the money to pay his level 2 course.
For now he's doing what he really wants to do, which is ski for fun.

We stayed at the Rossl (with Equity) too...just be careful there's no groups of school kids when you're in. (You'd do that anyway I'm sure)
Schladming is a great place, very lively in the town at night. I would like to go back.
(Avoid Prato Nevoso with Equity, not one of their better resorts!)
