Thanks for that Admin.

I never worry too much about snow later in the season.
Ignore those who scoff at Easter skiing.
Just pick your resort carefully.
Grand Massif usually fantastic and slopes much quieter than at half term.

That said this year we're going to Les Saisies, looking good.

A lot cheaper than the ski racing gloves you can buy.

I never knew they sold clothes.

Hi Eljay,
Lidl have specials each week.
A few months ago they did ski gear - it's ok.
They do sailing stuff sometimes, including wetsuits, motorbike gear and also they've recently been doing fishing gear as well.

I don't think it's stuff that lasts for years, but for for occasional use or for someone trying a new sport, you can't go wrong.
You'd have to hide the B square logo on the ski helmet tho!!!!
(actually I tried one on and it was a no go - totally odd shape - less it's my head )

Hey big boy, If you gotta hide the label don't buy it

Hey even bigger big boy...you got a point - I didn't

A few years ago (2003) we stayed in Puy St Vincent for that same April week - in fact we came home 21st April. Puy would be a recommended resort for a beginner, purpose built, totally unpretentious. Loved it.
But I don't think I would want to risk it again that late, it was running rivers by the time we went home and was muddy.

However, we went to Serre Chevalier for the day as it was free for a day on our Puy pass.
We could not ski down to the resort (I think we went on the Chantemerle gondola) but the snow was good higher up and the nursery slopes were in operation.

There may be other people who have an opinion of Serre Che as to whether it's suitable for your needs, but worth a consideration.

AA route planner has the journey time as 3h 21m, 179.3 miles.

My son's helmet is 58cm and he is just growing out of it. New last year, it fits my 13 yo daughter & me, but some of the ladies ones on this site are 52 & 54cm...I thought my head was smallish. The women these are for must have weeny heads.

My helmet is a 54cm. Are you calling me a pinhead  It's this one.

I measured my head as 56cm - which leads me to the conclusion that Cebe sizes are waaaay out

For the tip about buying helmets. I guess you're right, and if I buy one I'd better go to a shop that sells them, and try them on.

I wondered if they have different strengths - like one for recreational on piste skiers, and a different gauge of helmet for e.g. slalom racers who would be going much faster.

Ally,
Aren't you going to Courcheval next year?

You''ll fit in a treat in this one

Does anyone know how you pick a good helmet?

Buy the one that fits you, it's that simple :D

I would imagine all helmets adhere to minimum standards, so it probably is as simple as buying one that fits & is comfortable. If it doesn't fit it might not be safe.

Personally I would avoid buying one off the web unless I had tried the same model on. I mentioned this before, the sizes seem to vary hugely. My son's Cebe helmet, size 58cm fits me perfectly. It is snug, but comfortable. A mate brought a Salomon Brigade Audio size 54/55cm round for me to try - it fits-ish, but not comfortable, if anything slightly too much movement.
It 's got ipod headphones in it (I'm not sure about skiing with ipods - is it safe?) and looks cool..except for the peak which can be removed.

If I were you, I would take my time and try a few on.
Another expense!
