you get to the lifts by a free bus that stops outside the tourist office and the cinema...there are some nice runs at the top of the gondola to get you started and a nice blue down to Morrilons nice skiing and there looks still to be lots of snow
don't get the full grand massif lift pass just the more local one...enjoy yourself

thx for the reply. im a bit worried about the ammount of snow as the temps seem to get higher and higher. for this reason i was thinking about gettig the full lift pass in order to get to higher areas where the temperature is lower. but i will take your advice and only get the cheaper one. thx
btw i live in sheffield as well:)

Hi,
I've been to Samoens a few times at this time of year and I would also say get a local pass to start with. You could buy an extension if you need to after a few days, but it's large area and if you've not skied a lot it will take quite a while to get to Flaine.

In fact, with the local pass you can still ski TO Flaine, just not IN Flaine. And the runs coming back are challenging. Beware of this if you do venture over.

The free bus goes right round the Village.. where are you staying? it has bus stops right round the village and runs a continuous loop. One place we stayed it was quicker to walk to the Gondola.
Don't fret if you get there and it is raining and there is no snow in the village, it is low and hopefully will be snowing higher up.

There are a few runs at the top of the gondola for you to find your feet, then 2 chairs to take you to the next level. From there you can ski back to 1600 or take another chair to the Tete des Saix. You have a choice of two, one to your far left and another closer on the right that will bite the back of your legs if you're not careful! From here you can go to Morillon or Les Carroz. Both nice places to get your confidence.

It is not cheap in the restaurants but I've read on here this year that Fliane is even more expensive than Samoens.
If by the end of the week you find that you've had enough then Flaine is certainly a treat to ski.
Have a great time and let us know how you got on.

€3.2 for a packet of Walkers crisps in Flaine !!!

the restaurant on the slopes by 1600 is cheaper and also has a picnic area
Depends how you are going ,,,if you have a car its MUCH cheaper to shop outside the village......and hire the skis before you go the difference is astounding .../I know I had to do it in the village and my friend pre hired through skiset
