hiya,

no i was at the seiwald. in kirchdorf
Unfortunately its young cool dudes on boards who think they can , but cant , that cause the problems, I ski with boarders, no probs there. have been taken out by an idiot boarder on one occasion , good job his board hit the top edge of my boots, and wasnt higher. ( He came off worse than me) ha ha. same resort, boarders off piste despite warnings, 2 died in avalanche 1 was lucky. that wasnt funny.

Equally this year we had skiers groups that were out of control. . ie; about 60 of em on a red track going as fast as possible, in a very tight group. we stayed behind, one of the group lost a ski over the edge, last time we saw it was travelling about 60 mile an hour and accellerating fast. I know Im an Old fart , but im too young to die,

well just had a bit of that myself, having broken leg previous year. reckon i need a couple of weeks on the snow to get back to where i was, had ski lessons in austria for 2 days was a help. then went off on the reds somewhere, it was hard going, but i think worth it, i dont actually remember it being a joy tho, just wasnt relaxed eneough. but my theory is u gotta push yourself through it.

Best Off-Piste in Austria & Italy ?

Dom , pretty well all the resorts ive seen in austria are excellent for boards. Italy is the same. check out the resorts 1st, on the web. some have dedicated board parks . If your looking for off piste, hence your comment about trees! you need to get above the tree line in the alps, but there are a few hefty rocks up there too.

Hi john. cant remember them now but there are loads of sites on internet , telling you how to, alternatively, you can buy tune up kits, which give you instructions. try ebay.

skis to blades
Started by User in Ski Technique, 8 Replies
lol, thank you guys, I was going to try a board last year but never quite got there. I think maybe I had a couple of problems, Hire ski's were the heaviest i can remember, and I was certainly struggling with the left foot, this added to the 4ft of fresh wet snow, and er going on to the black that was actually taped off , so shouldnt have been there reallly , but shhhhhhhh. The main difference i found with the blades was how much harder you have to work when slowing yourself down. This really showed up the weakness in the left ankle. so praps i need to concentrate on that left leg more anyway. Off to Kirchdorf Sat morning, the snow is excellent apparently. Wish me luck. Will be looking for ski pals next year. for a 2nd trip. any gender any age , any number. so if anyone is interested , ill post again when i get back. Cheers all.
whilst watching recent olympics Im sure I heard the comment that in line skates was the best possible preparation for ski-ing. i presume in line means rollerblades! Took up road cycling 3 4 years ago , made enormous difference to leg strength.

thanks powder hound, was hoping for someone with similar experience, the only guy i spoke to, who had same experience, reckoned that blading had ruined his skiing. he to, had broken leg, but that was result of attempting to rescue his daughter, who was about to be whisked off on a ski lift. I will be taking it very cautiously this year. So far from heading for the nearest black, I might get to the reds by midweek.
I would appreciate others comments, quite a few have looked.
thanks
