How do you handle skiing on ICE?

I tend to say 'whoooooooa' as my skis slip/skid over it!

It is a very sad reflection on what happens when you give up a safe U.K. existence for the uncertain one of doing a ski season - the next step will be when his jacket gets full of holes and everyone tells him to pack inside it with old newspaper

Thanks Finn, i looked at Soldeu too....in fact having been to Andorra before i would like to go back. The only problem with Soldeu for me is the lack of SC Apartments. Or at least offered by the major TO's. I am sure i could find somewhere DIY though.

There are lots of self catered appartments if you go DIY, we have friends that have found some real bargains!

I love soldeu! :D

Saint Jean D'Aulps is a small town about 10/15 min drive from Morzine. It has a limited ski area but links to the full Porte De Soleil area by a free shuttle bus. I think you can get a bus to Ardent for the lindarets ski area which links with Avoriaz and Switzerland and also a bus to Morzine for the Super Morzine gondola which links with above or the Pleney Gondola which links with Les Gets.

It is a traditional town and there are a few bars, restaurants and shops for you to enjoy. Morzine is a much bigger town with many shops bars restaurants and clubs.

Just re read your post and see that you have a car, you will be using it most of the week I suspect to get to the best ski areas.

I live within walking distance to the Super Morzine lift but tend to drive to Ardent as it has a big carpark and there are always spaces and it is good access to a large ski area.

I'm glad you're sorted now :D

SnowBandit,
I took the chunk out of my finger when I was practising with the chains in the house. The automatic tension system has a control a bit like the lock on a metal tape measure - you push it one way and it releases, and you push it the other way and it locks. And I released it to pull out the extra cable (so that there is some spare to put it on the tyre), locked it, and then released it - and whoosh! The cable shot back into the control at a million miles an hour taking some of my finger with it

Surely cheaper as you only needed one boot ??

I've often wondered what I should do with the spare one. There's a pole going spare too!
