This is my first year taking my own ski boots and I can't decide on the best way pack them. Either one in each checked in suitcases, or carry both as hand luggage. We are flying Jet2 and have 22 kilos checked in baggage so weight is not an issue (I think). What do you all do :?: Ria x

In the hold - definately! In my bag, at the bottom, well stuffed with socks etc.
They are pretty much indestructable from anything an airline/baggage handler can throw at them.

Actually - I forgot - tend to put my goggles inside one of the boots, reckon this will keep them safe.

Sorry - keep the goggles safe that is, don't think goggles can magically keep ski boots safe??

Thanks Old Andy thats what I thought. I will do as you say and stuff the boots with socks etc.,and they will be surrounded by salopettes and clothes so hopefully they will be fine. Thanks again. Ria x

A few years ago there were reports of security turning back hand baggage containing ski boots. There were also many reports from J2skiers who had done just this. The worst example was an airline where the boots were allowed otwards as hand baggage, but not on the inward leg. Daft. I don't know if it has changed, but there are one or two occasions each season where I could take advantage of skiing just with hand luggage.

I took my new ski boots in the lovely special wheely boot bag I bought at the same time, as hand luggage with EasyJet in October and there was no problem at all.

I don't think they would have fitted in my suitcase with my helmet and all the rest of my stuff - plus they are quite heavy.

And - if the airline lost my suitcase I would at least have had my boots!

Thanks everyone for your help. I am getting the suitcases down from the loft tomorrow so will see how it looks putting one in each suitcase and surrounding it with clothes. Ria x
