An advantage with touring boots perhaps? That would be a fun discussion - "so these really are walking boots sir?"
"Well I am walking aren't I?"

  love it. I reckon all J2skiers should turn up at the airport in their boots and report back on the chaos! It would so be worth the discomfort, although perhaps some sort of grippy stuff stuck on the soles would probably help avoid it all ending in tears! Smooth plastic boots + smooth hard flooring = disaster!
I wish I could meet the person who first decided to strap 2 planks to their feet and throw themselves down a mountain

Insurance company - "so, you fell over and broke your leg skiing?"
Emma - "well not actually skiing ......"
Insurance co. " not skiing? Where did this accident happen?"
E - " erm .. South Terminal, Gatwick, on the run to gate 24, it was really busy and slippy and I missed the turn ......"
Insurance co. "and do you have any other medical impairments we should know about?"

Unfortunately, The rules in this area seem really ambiguous with different approaches being taken by airlines, airports and even different staff. I seem to recall, members of this site previously reporting being refused permission to bring boots as carry-on while a friend of mine was even refused permission, at Chambery airport, to carry on a ski helmet. He proceeded to check it in but it never reached his destination!

To be sure of getting away with your boots as cabin baggage, you should ideally get prior written confirmation from airline/TO and both the departure and arrival airports.

This has to be the best response ive ever seen, i love it... If airlines start taking the pi33 then we as skiers should most def stick together and start doing things like this. There is no rules that say your shoes that your wearing have to be a certain weight or size.... Im sure when airlines get fed up the policy or rules would change.

Im flying with Monarch on the 29th and their weight restriction for hand luggage is 5kg. If they ask me to pay any extra for the weight difference then i will seriously take them out of their bag and do just this. :D

My ski boots weigh exactly 5 Kg on their own, so if I was to take them on a Thompson flight as hand luggage I'd have to carry them in something practically weightless - like a strong plastic bag!

:evil:this is my worst part of holiday what is allowed and what isn't. I rang thomson and asked what can go in my board/ski bag they said I can out what I want in it including boots helmet etc as long as it didnt weigh over 26kg when I booked at thomson travel agents for my ski/board carriage they said I can only put in ski/board and helmet nothing else ans that boots had to go in main luggage not even hand luggage any one else travleing with thomson. I am going on a crystal holiday but traveling with thomson on 29th to seefeld austria.

in answer to boots weighing exactly 5kg don't put them in a bag who said your hand luggage has to be in a bag lol
