How would that work, and what would the cost be?

In my limited experience the cost would be prohibitive. Ebay have a useful tool for sellers that you can use to calculate overseas postage. I've only used it to check on one or two items of no more than a kilo. I'll find it when I get a chance. If you want it delivered within a reasonable timeframe add on even more money. You also need your stuff to arrive on the same day as you, unless you can make prior arrangements for someone to take delivery and also responsibility for it until you get there.

Mucho spondoolies + mucho grief = I wouldn't bother

EDIT - P.S. In fairness, Panamera is from the U.S. I suspect that this type of thing is a) more reliable and b) cheaper than in the U.K. or E.U.
I wish I could meet the person who first decided to strap 2 planks to their feet and throw themselves down a mountain

When I spoke to the airport they said they didn't have a problem but to check with my airline as they may have. Some airlines state they won't allow it and some of those state it's due to airport regulations.

How confusing and unfair
What's wrong with ski boots in hand luggage? Flying seems to have become very complicated now - it's just as well I usually get the train :D

I flew out of Bristol to Geneva, and back from Geneva to Gatwick, so those airports must be okay with it (or at least they were in October), and so was EasyJet.

Bristol must have changed there policy (or you were lucky) then. Last season they had big signs stuck up in several places before cheeck in warning that no boots were allowed in hand baggage.

Rustyinn,
I didn't see any notices (although I have to admit I'm not very observant). Maybe I am just lucky :D

I suppose if they'd refused to allow my ski boots in my hand luggage I would have had to empty my suitcase to make enough room for the boots and put all the stuff I'd taken out in my hand luggage instead. Just as well I got to the airport in plenty of time.

It all goes to show how random this is. I know someone who flew into and out of France with an expired passport. But obviously this doesn't mean that none of us need to bother getting a new passport any more.

And as for luggage delivery, I had a look at the prices on www.carrymyluggage.com

I picked a couple of American states at random, and discovered that they would charge only £78 return from Wisconsin to Virginia for ski boots and skis. Whereas the same from the U.K. to France was £110 plus VAT total £132 for the 'economy' price and £168 plus VAT for the 'priority' price.
