I have been trawling the old threads about sauze, which is where i fancied and they all said the same really and that was if conditions were good it was fantastic but very unreliable. is that the same for the whole of the milky way? might have to have a rethink. i havent ruled out austria and france, i just thought we should give somewhere else a try. i would be reluctant to go in january as i think it will be too cold for my youngest son and could potentially ruin the holiday whining about the cold so March would suit us better. we would like a large ski area that is interlinked
Ok, so I have been to Austria and we went to France last year so I wanted to try either switzerland or italy. i want to go somewhere where which is connected like the milky way. is there any other places that are like that in swizerland or italy. I know Tony has said that sauze is a good place to go, so i am looking to bag a bargain. this will be our 3rd family skiing holiday and looking for nice and cruisy, dont want a lot too challenging. we will be taking the kids out of school to go so i am not sure whether to go diy and book now taking advantage of the cheap flights by easyjet ( i think i looked at flying into geneva from newcastle) and hiring a car for the week to take us to the milky way. or do you think i should wait until nearer the time for a last minute bargain? what do you think?
Mel if it is tree lined skiing you want then you will be disappointed with Valmorel as 90% of it is above the tree line but there are some lovely runs. We really did have a good week of skiing. also there is a run (the madelaine i think)where there is a drop off either side but it is not too hairy, although i was a bit paranoid with the kids and by the end of the week when it was quite icy, i was too frightened to take the kids down it in case they went over the side lol but i am sure there was another run that joined you back in the same place. also we had a terribel experience with crystal as you can see from my report. We havnt chose where to go next year. i have been somewhat put off france as it was sooooo expensive in valmorel and would really like some tree lined skiing. i am thinking for next year we might just get a last minute booking but dont know how many last minute bookings you can get for 2 adults and 2 children and in fact jack is 12 this year so he will be classed as an adult. we might have to get 2 rooms and see what bargains we can grab (will be taking the kids out of school for the week - lets call it educational lol)
Hi mel. I remember you because we were looking for more or less the same thing. you chose chamrousse and i chose valmorel.

If you have a look on my previous posts you will see the report i wrote on valmorel.

Looking back on it now my memories are that there was lots of runs that we managed to ski, we didnt try any reds though as some of the blues (in my opinion) should have been red, they are a class of their own, but by the end of the week we had mastered them. runs were a bit icy by the end of the week too as there had not been any snow for a couple of weeks but considering that they were ok. the big downside for us was the cost of everythign (i detialed in my report). would i go back? yes most definitley, it is a lovely easy cruisy resort and apart from the expense of things like food, it was just what we were looking for.

I agree with Tony also, I think you will find Niederau very limiting as there are not many pistes that are confidence building, we have just returned from Valmorel in France which would be perfect for what you want in terms of confidence building as the whole resort is nearly all blue but we found it a tad on the expensive side, that would be the only downfall of the resort.

Tino I just wanted to ask, having looked at Leogang myself, you say you access saalbach through some cruisy reds. are these more like blues? or do they compare with the reds in niederau? other resorts being thrown into the mix when asking about cruisy blues were ellmau and kitzbuhl
