driving from amsterdam to Niederau
Started by User in Austria, 4 Replies
Hi there

can anyone give me some good routes to drive from Amsterdam to Niederau in Feb half term?

Just trying to plot my route.

***** EDITED *******
thanks for the advice Dave. We are booked at the Alpehof and I have emailed a couple ski schools to no avail. They must not be manned like you say.

I will definitley ask if they do a combined lift pass and ski hire.

I am so excited now. I hope the family enjoy it cause I am already thinking about Feb 10 lol. I will take the kids out of school though

I just booked the Ferry for the school hols for the 5 of us for £535, booked through quidco so I might get £20 back if I am lucky. WE have decided to take the car so sailing from Ncl to Ams then drive to Niederau (just how do you say that?)

Just waiting for the lady from the accomodation to get back to me to pay for the apartments and then we are halfway there.

Do you think I should book the skischool now or wait till later? does anyone know if the kids (age 8 & 10) will be in the skischool that is in the failrytal village or will they just be on the beginners slopes? do you think hubby will be able to see them (as he will be in ski school too) or are the ski schools too far apart?

any ideas for the best price on bog standard boot and ski hire? is it best to book before I go? Also lift passes. I cant really see us venturing further than niederau, do we have to buy a wildenschou lift pass or do they do a cheaper local one?

Thanks in advance. lots more questions to come

i have had a quick price check and to go from newcastle to amsterdam is £550 return. It is an overnight ferry leaving at 6pm getting in at 9.30am.

I will check the cancellation policy because i need to book now as it is I cant get a 2 birth and 3 birth for return journey but i am going to check other ferrys, only really looked at dfds.

its funny you should mention the ferrys because just as i sent my last reply I mentioned to hubby about driving and getting the ferry and he said he would do that. so that means i can book the accom and plan on getting the ferry but in the meantime when the easyjet flights come out and they are cheaper, then we can fly.

Do we need to buy anything like snow chains for the car? are there any specific requirements? I am just pricing the ferry from newcastle to amsterdam now.

thanks Dave. I dont think I would even factor in getting the Ferry. Far too long a journey. I am in a quandry now. as it is June and my options for accomodation are extremly limited, if I wait until the easyjet flights come up the accomodation could be gone. I was considering booking the accomodateion without the flights and just hoping for the best.
Oberau? Auffach? any good for beginners

thanks that is reassuring about the ski school. my kids are 8, 10 and 13, but it is only the two younger ones going in ski school. i haev persuaded hubby to let me and oldest child off the leash whilst they are in ski school.

I emailed the tourist offfice of niederau and with a bit of help from the good people on these forums I am waiting for some hotels to come back to me. so fingers crossed I can get in for the school hol week. just need a price for an easyjet flight from manchester or edinburgh to salz, munich or inns. any ideas at peak time?
